YS on X-days is well above GS in the coverage ladder. So if you are close, but GS aren’t near your seniority yet, it’s much better than having to buy a trip.
Depending on how much time you have left, and if you have gotten the extension, you might wait for the GS and kill 2 birds with one stone. But buying a trip sux.

I was pretty close to a GS call that just went out.
Mostly I'm just pushing buttons right now trying to find out how things work

Yes, he's the one getting paid, not you. You only get per diem. Not joking - search "Trip Buy" on DeltaNet and click the first result. Read the stuff on the left, especially the bottom where it talks about pay treatment.

…which is why I’ve always wondered why ANYone under ANY circumstances would ever do this.

Also, 3 man crews can only count ⅔ of the block time towards consolidation, and 4-man can only count half.
One final thing to remember, if you have to requal, you start the consolidation process completely over. Your previous hours do not count. In essence, bunk time doesn’t count.

It’s been said, but for anyone who didn’t catch it, let me state it clearly. If you do a trip buy, only one person is getting paid, an it is NOT YOU. You work for free, no joke. For. Free. It can have major pay implications. That sucks.
Great it worked for you, I guess. But going back to VA Ave for 3-4 days for a short requal course, including two check events is not my first choice, nor my idea of a good plan. But if you aren’t even close to consolidating, I’d rather do that than buy 2 or 3 trips working for free.

The whole process took three days, including my travel days to/from ATL. A trade of three days for three months off and worrying about YS etc was well worth it. I don’t fear VA Ave or the instructors that roam the halls there. Again, YMMV. As far as my consolidation starting over; IDGAFOS. That’s their problem, not mine.

Right… that’s why I put YMMV.

Newbie question: I have a single day of reserve at the end of this month I am trying to swap out of. That day shows 20 reserve required, 16 available. The I have offered it 3 different dates to swap with it, they currently show 26/19, 28/23, 23/23. I thought it wouldn't give me any trouble because a couple of those are weekend days with worse coverage than the day I want to move my x-day to, but it denied all 3 requests for "capped reserve day." Am I missing something?

I do feel like I’ve won the lottery! I love my job and still can’t believe I’m driving 767s to Europe.
I was simply saying that consolidation is not my priority and if the company wants to pay me to stay home with my family then I’ll take it! I also don’t feel like I “escaped” my LCC. B6 was a great place to work most days…

That said: an orphaned day at the end of the month is pure gold. Are you sure you want to get rid of it??
