Reserve for Dummies
#1461
PBS Bidding Question: I usually bid reserve, but thinking of line for next month and not too well versed bidding for line trips.
My category picked up a bunch of nice Carribbean layovers for January. If I can score a couple of those, I'd deal with flying a line for the month, otherwise I want reserve. Basically, I want to bid in such a way that I get at least a couple of the XYZ layovers and if not awarded "else start next" and give me reserve.
ELSE START NEXT doesn't seem to be an option to combine with AWARD PAIRINGS. Any ideas how to construct a bid with this logic? I'm looking at adding a CSSN line, but I still think it might possibly award me a line without the XYZ layover if I use this.

This is definitely my biggest gripe with our PBS software. How freaking hard is it to add Else start next to Award Pairing?! I started a thread about this a few years ago, and the verdict was that CSSN is the only option but it is a very poor substitute. I’m often in your exact situation and I doubt we’re alone.

I've been digging in the SRH and PWA, but I can't find a good answer:
I was assigned a res rotation at 0900 the day before my first LC day, the roation began at 1800 on my first LC day. I acknowledged the rotation.
I look at my schedule later that evening (~1600) and they removed me from my first rotation and had assigned me a new rotation with an earlier report time the following day (1005 to be exact). This swapped could have happened prior to 1200. Am I obligated to fly the new rotation? Does the fact that I acknowledged the first rotation mean anything, or can then swap them all they want until 1200 the day prior?
23.S & N don't make it very clear what they can do after I have acknowledged the assignment.

If on your scheudle NLT 12hrs before non-fly day ends, it's legit....scheds can change what they assign you 69 different times before the 12 hour prior mark.

Don’t have the PWA handy, but wasn’t there something in the new contract about that? Reserve schedule lock or something like that?

Under the new PWA reserves get reroute pay, so I’m wondering when that reroute trigger would begin? I can’t find a good reference for when I’ve acknowledged a trip, when is considered a “reroute”. The PWA specifically states that a reserve can be rerouted prior to first airborne leg, after being assigned a trip.
So when is the trip officially assigned?

PWA 23.S.5.e
However, it the pilot chose to look at their schedle and voluntarily acknolwedged it....
Kind of like when Scheds is fishing by calling a SC pilot before SC starts, or assigning a rotaiton that starts 30 min after SC starts....knowing the contract and forcing scheds to stick to it normally pays dividends in the pilot's favor.

Yes, 24 hours before report you are released. No firther schedule checks are required.
I second DWC CAP10 about checking the trip coverage report for what time it was assigned. If after 1200day prior (in your case), it’s not a legal assignment. This doesn’t apply in your situation, since you looked 26 hours prior to original, but if a change in rotation occurs within 24 hours of the original report, it’s also not legal if it reports earlier.
