I think you are "over thinking" it. The point is, guys are crying foul over the concept of the company designating all open time as SS, thus no ability to swap for one. But the point made is, guys often look up trips that pop up 2-3 days out, and almost always start with a 0 in the pairing number. Those are never designated SS, and are often nice ways to "work smarter, not harder."

The businessmen don’t care about our feelings toward them nor theirs toward us. How do we as a pilot group make the business case to stop running dal as if we’re edv? This rotation construction is getting awful and yet mgt keeps chipping away at our ability to manipulate our schedules. Same with sick treatment. The regionals get away with this bs because of the transient nature of their employees- we are losing options and I only assume more ‘limits’ were part of gumms non-starter concessionary proposal.
