Hmmm...so he was on short call...and got an 'assignement'? Are there some squirley rules about how long he has to report, and if they need him inside that time, perhaps they are calling it an assignment?

I thought that rule (12 hours?) only applied to long call though, not sure about short call. How long did he have from assingment until sign in? And was it a domestic trip or international?

You can check with the DALPA web board, they have a scheduling forum there, you can give them the exact pairing number, etc. and they can tell you what's up.

The same thing that happens anytime you have a beer on long call - you kill a few brain cells, feel good and enjoy the beer! Remember, unless you are on short call its a 12 hour call out.

If your rest was to end with a short call you obviously should not have a beer, long call - no worries.

If they try to assign you a callout with less than 12 hours you are obligated to let them know that you have recently consumed alcohol.

Good point.

My hiring achieved what ALPA would have sought via it's Merger and Fragmentation Policy back in the day that a Delta MEC member handed me my first copy of Flying the Line nearly fifteen years ago (while working on the Bid Restricted SO SLOA, to get jobs for Delta pilots, btw)

For the rest of you, like 1234; the logic makes sense on a short term basis. Of course if the only sandwich shop in the terminal doubles its prices it will make a profit. The long term picture is that the City will lease three other sandwich shops space in the terminal and they will enter the market for Bologna on Wheat ... eventually driving down profits for "sandwich capacity reductions is our leverage." Worse, since the new entrants have no legacy costs their will have a cost advantage on the "capacity reductions are our leverage" Bologna vendor.

As stated clearly by Bastian and Anderson, our continued shrinkage is driving up unit costs. This fact makes us less competitive long term.

Sailing always gets angry when someone contrasts the growth at other airlines with what appears to be a slow liquidation of what Delta Air Lines was. It is imagined "as long as Sailing got his," the rest of us should literally be happy to clean his garbage from the flight deck until we retire two years after he does.
Another good point. You can only shrink to a point. DAL's plethora of different game jets allows them to shrink ASM's without sacrificing network coverage. This too works to a point. After that point the network must shrink ; CVG MEM.

... you're going to get seriously bent over.

And when they decide to charge you the "change fee" of $150/ticket instead of the cancel fee they promised would apply if $29 per ticket, and just give you a credit towards some future flight instead of the actual refund as promised, don't even THINK about questioning them.

And if you even TRY to discuss it and bring up the fare rules and pamphlets linked to the Fly for Less page to support that you should get your $1900 back as promised when you bought the "refundable" tickets, which you wisely printed to be sure you could get the promised refund, you're going to get threatened with having your Non-rev privileges being revoked.

Last time I EVER try to fly on Delta for $$, or try to give them my business. That 20% "savings" as an employee was the most expensive ticket I never used in my life, and getting threatened by a ticket agent to shut up and take the loss was just unbelievable. NOT a huge fan of my company just now.
Problem is the booking codes used. Call or email pass benefit services. You will see issues as well when you buy a BE seat on a international flight and they want to charge bag fees for anything over 50 lbs.
