I was able to fly the DC10 for a short period of time after Sept11. It was the nicest flying plane I have ever flown. The best cockpit, quiet, wide, airy, with plenty of glass.
The FO duties were few as the FE did most of the work. And on the -40, with no autothrottles, the FE spent a lot of time adjusting the power to maintain mach during cruise. If you had to maintain .85 on the Atlantic tracks the aircraft would shudder, as .85 was max mach speed on the big bird. It was an easy bird to land a get a greaser. :) http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviatio.../5/1150573.jpg I wonder how much FedEx spent per plane doing that? |

Ah, let's bring back the big douglas!!! We can slap in the FedEx DC-10 cockpits...
I wonder how much FedEx spent per plane doing that? They had one of the now defunct accounting firms(can't remember which one) who advised that they could do the conversion and then consider the asset "New" since it would be a completely different type in the eyes of the FAA, and then depreciate it again from its full value. That is where they were going to 'make money' with the change. Needless to say, that was later shown to be an incorrect application of tax law and they were not able to "recycle" the depreciation, but they already signed the contracts for the conversions so they went ahead and did them anyway. Now they are looking at parking the oldest DC-10's as they start to take delivery of the new 767-300F's. D'oh! |

My favorite ( both relaxing and educational) way to see the city is the circle line boat tour. I highly recommend it. If time is an issue try the semi- circle tour. The intrepid museum is next door as well.Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises

Added some more rows and more importantly, put first class in the 70 seater props.
just as an idea, maybe swap the two columns in the 50 seat category (so its consistently Embraer/Bombardier?) /edit also, what are your block speeds based on? particular route? just surprised about the difference between the CR7 and E170 (was always under the impression the E170 was slower) |

for comparison sake, have you considered using first class in your 70 seat category as well? -> CR7 (65 seats) + EMB 170 (69 seats) just as an idea, maybe swap the two columns in the 50 seat category (so its consistently Embraer/Bombardier?) /edit also, what are your block speeds based on? particular route? just surprised about the difference between the CR7 and E170 (was always under the impression the E170 was slower)

NWA called their contract the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Should we go all postal about trips/rotations/pairings, blocks/lines and preferences/cards?
Still would like an answer on why not to allow the pilots to vote in the MEC Chair? |
