What growth flying would the growth jets be doing?

Interesting question. Why do you care? Just asking.

I think it worthwhile to think about the direction that we have gone since signing the contract to answer it though. Fewer RJs. That slop has to be taken up somewhere. 88-717s coming aboard. Problem solved.

The rest will be easy enough to figure out too. Look at what is going away, and what is replacing it. Then figure a small percentage of that small "growth" number will be actual growth. I buy sailing's argument, but I really don't see that much true growth. It will keep up with inflation if you will, but that is about it.

That kind of reduction in total system block hours would equal the cuts of the last 12 years and then some for the mainline to see a reduction. If you honestly believe that then you should be hard at work on a plan B.

1 point for each of you. We still have a really big anchor in the form of debt. If that is NOT a consideration for anemic growth, then there should be a WB order to reflect that. I don't see much on the horizon. 10 330s every 15 years and a 777 every 5 does not equate to much growth. Again, if it were an investment that were growing like that, I would pull my money.

We currently have a very senior pilot in LA that regularly gives his sweet asia trip to a very junior pilot (figure the senior guy has some business that makes Delta a part-time job)... this is wrong... what's the point of having a seniority based system?

And there are some on the other forum that want an out of base swap with friends... can you imagine the abrogation THERE?

Fair enough. My problem here though, is well documented. All of the "replacement" aircraft you mention, and none of the "growth" aircraft you mentioned are upguaged airframes from the 757. I know, that is a different discussion for a different thread. But.... at my seniority, I do not see much upside potential with what you are describing. I see even more stagnation for the top 50% of the list.

As a 7er captain there are only 2 airframes Delta has a interest in that benefit you. The RFP'S for wide bodies is for one of those 2 airframes. The other airframes however will benefit a large part of the seniority list.
I do find it interesting that everyone states all these new 76 seat airframes are coming to DCI and there will be no growth at the mainline. It seems many on here voted on the contract without making any effort to actually read it.

I think you're absolutely right, except I'd replace "many on here" with "many (if not most) Delta pilots". But they blindly trusted the negotiators and their LEC representatives and bought the DALPA sales job "hook, line and sinker".

Uh, no. I read it. Cover to cover. That has nothing to do with this Sailing. I don't believe that the contract can force management to deviate from their plan one little bit... never did... (with the exception of the RJ thingy). And THAT is why I am such an advocate for banded pay at a minimum... LGBP as the Holy Grail. But the contract not having anything to do with fleet makeup is probably one thing that you and I agree on much to the chagrin of some on here. But.... I will further argue that DAL has 4 airframe sizes that will affect me, but I still contend that the RFP is anemic in it's scope for only 10, and those 10 are not super premium. The growth will by default be anemic. Now if the pay scales are ever rationalized......

I third that motion.:D

I'm all for seniority but trip parking and "friend swapping" end run the process. Dump it next contract!!

Here's an honest question - with all the incoming aircraft (and some retirements), what do you see the Delta Pilot Block Hours doing over the next few years? SD always says we staff for Pilot Block Hours, not airframes or routes.
