What growth flying would the growth jets be doing?
I think it worthwhile to think about the direction that we have gone since signing the contract to answer it though. Fewer RJs. That slop has to be taken up somewhere. 88-717s coming aboard. Problem solved. The rest will be easy enough to figure out too. Look at what is going away, and what is replacing it. Then figure a small percentage of that small "growth" number will be actual growth. I buy sailing's argument, but I really don't see that much true growth. It will keep up with inflation if you will, but that is about it. |

If there is another economic disaster you might be right. However if what you say is true then it will mean that Delta is in deep economic trouble and perhaps on the verge of a shutdown. That kind of reduction in total system block hours would equal the cuts of the last 12 years and then some for the mainline to see a reduction. If you honestly believe that then you should be hard at work on a plan B.

I think we should get rid of swap with friends... it completely abrogates seniority. We currently have a very senior pilot in LA that regularly gives his sweet asia trip to a very junior pilot (figure the senior guy has some business that makes Delta a part-time job)... this is wrong... what's the point of having a seniority based system?

Fair enough. My problem here though, is well documented. All of the "replacement" aircraft you mention, and none of the "growth" aircraft you mentioned are upguaged airframes from the 757. I know, that is a different discussion for a different thread. But.... at my seniority, I do not see much upside potential with what you are describing. I see even more stagnation for the top 50% of the list.
I do find it interesting that everyone states all these new 76 seat airframes are coming to DCI and there will be no growth at the mainline. It seems many on here voted on the contract without making any effort to actually read it. |

As a 7er captain there are only 2 airframes Delta has a interest in that benefit you. The RFP'S for wide bodies is for one of those 2 airframes. The other airframes however will benefit a large part of the seniority list.

I second your motion.
I'm all for seniority but trip parking and "friend swapping" end run the process. Dump it next contract!! |
