Bigger, faster, stronger. Any judged event is wide open to corruption and should all be exhibition only. Oh, and no professionals.
"The East German judge gave her a perfect 10" I prefer to compete against a clock, or another team via the scoreboard, (Hockey) which doesn't lie. You bring in Judges, you are asking for corruption. |

Ever since I was a kid and began watching the winter Olympics and the "Russian Judge" giving 10's for their skaters, and 6's for ours, I have questioned the validity of a sport that is so subjectively scored.

Yeah I don't even watch any of that crap. The downhill is pretty awesome right now...
He went to Innsbruck and skied the same slope they did the giant slalom on, a day before the Olympics started. BUT...he said the night before the Downhill Race, they were out there spraying water all over the run! He said it was not too hard a slope...on snow. But he said they were doing it on Blue ICE! Growing up in NH and skiing Wildcat (across the street from Mt. Washington) I learned to ski on ice. We had to sharpen our edges so we could shave with them. It was ice and rocks most of the time and 10 below at the top. And blowing 20. BUT...we were skipping class at UNH to go skiing, and drinking Jack to keep warm, and we were loving it! And we were 19. http://www.skiwildcat.com/trails-terrain.html I see those guys going down the GS runs now and I hear their edges scraping that ice at the speeds they are going and I just think... Fk ME! I would Never be doing that! Not even on Jack. Not even at 19! No wonder they are crashing and blowing out knees. Bode grew up skiing on Wildcat too. He knows ice. I just hope he can hold it together for one more Gold and retire while he can still walk. Oh, and my Mentor, who skied Innsbruk? http://www.olympic.org/content/resul...f2&event=31859 He had a double knee replacement about 5 years ago... |
I just got back from the workout room (Are you here in LA by chance?) The only thing I could get on the cross trainers was CBS and the Beatles show....
wow. |

Back in the 70's (?) the winter Olympics were held in Innsbruck, Austria. I have a good Delta Pilot friend (walked my App into Snake's office for me) who was a ski nut.

If i was on rsv with such a close assignment to finishing a previous trip I would have hated life. But 28 hours of pay for not even 10 hours of flying equals this strut through the parking lot: http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_le3jwykhad1qzygye.png |
I'm trying really hard to un-see that, but good for you...
...that strut is also how you get a seat to yourself on the bus. |
[QUOTE=Timbo;1578174]Oh he will, but instead of calling it vaseline, he'll call it...
Growth! :D Sorry guys!! I just looked up who Richard is... :( :o |
mentor
timbo,
Was Franz your mentor at Wildcat? I don't even ski and his Innsbruck downhill for gold is unforgettable! That run was amazing--it was obvious to the most casual observer that he was at 10/10ths or greater EVERY second of that run. GF |

GF No, I never saw him there if he was there, I only saw him on TV, but you are right, he was suicidal fast! We would always be sure we were on the last chair going up the mountain at the end of the day...then we'd wait at the top for about 10 minutes, to give all the people ahead of us time to get down, then we'd race each other with the whole mountain to ourselves. :D Well, us and the last Ski Patrol guys coming down at about 4:30pm, as it was getting dark. I just got a good look at Bode Miller's ski's on TV this morning, wow, they are really wide at the tips, and short! I haven't skied in about 20 years, their equipment sure looks different now, with the bent poles and helmets, etc. I guess I'll have to stick to the Bunny slope at Ski Dubai! ;) Did your luggage show up yet? |
