That's what I was thinking too. My first thought was "defensive".

They spent a lot of effort talking about the (misguided perspective of) the big airline. And so they spend a lot of time actually talking about someone else coming in to the market. It's accidental publicity for Delta.

Maybe the communities in question wouldn't mind having a little competition for their affection?

Holy cow, why would they put this out? It's elevating Delta in the same way Pepsi elevated Coke by showing them in their commercials while Coke focused on Coke in theirs. You don't mention the competitor. Ever. Unless you're the lesser (or feel like the lesser) of the two and want people to know that despite being or feeling like the lesser you're actually just as good or better. But people will think, you're the lesser.

Intrigued. But, now that they did it, there are a few gems in this.

1) I think we should make a commercial: We are Delta, and all we do is win. :D

2) The Delta thing is bothering them.

3) The Juneau thing is really bothering them.
