No, I believe NWA ALPA wanted it for the Flow Down language in the event of a furlough. Since it was a part of the BK contract that was what they negotiate for the scope relief.

No kidding. The most overpriced, unhealthy garbage in the system. Be nice to have a CIBO buffet or a trendy "Lemonade" like LAX.

One of the nuggets I took away was that the 777 doesn't seem to fit anywhere in DAL's future route network. Said another way, the "powers that be" like right sizing a/c to range and capabilities...the 777 doesn't seem to be doing anything another fleet or a/c type could be doing now....ie 330's.
JMHO

Nothing else can fly ATL-Dubai and Johannesburg, or any other 15-17hr. legs, with 50,000lbs. cargo and reserve fuel. The problem is, there just aren't too many routes that require 15-17 hour flights, and new 777's are very expensive.

The big Airbus is quite a bit cheaper and holds more people. Shorter range, less cargo, but as I said, there just are not too many destinations in Delta's network that require 777 range.

They are now reconfiguring the 777's to eliminate 8 lie flat seats and add 22 Economy Comfort seats, for a total capacity of 291 pax.

The 777-300ER is supposed to haul more cargo than a 747, but they are very expensive and Delta got out of the cargo business a long time ago.

No money in cargo, anyway.

...and this was the nugget I took away from their comments. There isn't a need for the capabilities and expense of a 777. Now if they could get the cheap this could change.
There seems to be or soon will be much more shuffling of fleets on routes, not only seasonally but possibly days of the week.

I don't understand why every big European airline can fly 777's and 747's (or A380's) to Europe. But it's not in our DNA.

Is in our joint venture DNA...

Ummmmm. Because they have much lower unit acquisition costs than we do.

Thanks Ex-Im bank, U.S. Government, and Boeing.

This is also a major reason while we will see a 330 before a 777, a 350 before a 787, etc, etc.

Johnny looking little uncomfortable.

Not surprised. If Bridgewater or Carr go before him......
