Even if senior pilots take them, imagine what it's going to do to the senior flight attendants.

If true, IMO, it's a big plus for the company on that one.

The trick is the rig surrounding them and limiting their creation and scope. The devil is in the details, but I assume that was pretty much the only way around all these 30 hour layovers.

I did a lot of them in a previous life and hated them... but they also always went junior and didn't pay crap.

I'm not a smart man. How is that possible and why would the company want them?

I dont care what rules are attached to it, CDOs are dangerous. Fatigue will set in and of course, we wont say a thing. Money is a great motivator. Just like these, nonsense 8+ hr domestic days. I am so tired of the hypocrisy. If anybody truly wanted a safe operation, these ridiculous carve outs would be abolished. WHo are we kidding with these "Safety First" slogans?!!!

IMO, that's legalese for "'mo pilots needed."

80, I'm not doubting what you heard, but why would the company push to get CDOs unless it benefits them? If true they are part of the LOA, I'm skeptical. I'd want to see ironclad language, which we typically don't have, to ensure they are extremely limited.

That's all I've got at this point, and that was as specific as he was willing to get until his understanding is vetted.

The problem with releasing limited information is that it tends to create more questions than were asked before. I'm thankful for the info I've gotten so far and won't pull out the torches until I've got the full picture. Doing otherwise tends to just raise the blood pressure and accomplishes little.

There's a reason we haven't done CDOs at Delta. The guys here have done them in a previous life and they sucked-- that was when they were 5,10, or 15 years younger.

It is certainly ironic that this whole negotiation was required because of a new FAR 117 which was supposed to enhance the safety of air travel by modernizing pilot duty times and rest rules and reducing fatigue.

Then we end up with CDOs.

What the heck is a NWA longevity issue?

My longevity date happens over 2 months after my hire date. I honestly never thought that would be resolved until I hit the 12 year scale. I didn't even know the union was trying to fix that as it only affects about 150 of us.

This is an approved list of points to my questions I asked him of the LOA from my rep that I just got off the phone with (mad props to him!):

Increases to ADG

Contractual Long Call improvements

330 Rest seat moved to the MCRC

Split Duties (CDOs) with a lot of limitations. Decent pay for them

NWA Longevity issues resolved

8 hour 3-man and 12 hour 4-man ops retained

I posted about the CDOs a couple days ago.
