I'd rather not do 30 hr layovers, and if the CDO pays more than a standard duty period with the proper limitations it can be a good thing for the pilots. The devil is in the details, I hope they're done right (and imagine they are given the potential negative press they get). I trust my MEC and NC to do the work. We will find out next week! |

I'd think the 717 would see a lot of these, maybe a few on the 88 too.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking too. Well with more, perhaps many more of these on the way, that'd be a big improvement.
CDO's... they did suck in a previous lifetime. But we had tag-on turns, no minimum behind door rules, and no duty day limits based on time of day. With a pay bump, and the right sort of protections, these might actually go senior. All depends on the details. I'd think the 717 would see a lot of these, maybe a few on the 88 too. |

So this won't decrease the number of pilots needed at Delta Air Lines?

CDO's which cross time zones, or are over 1:00 in block times are DANGEROUS.
That's from personal experience..... And I did like them... Lots of time at home... However, refer to the first sentence above.... |

CDOs is a huge negative for me. There is no comparing a long flight were you get a rest on the jet to a landing, walk, bus, check in, undress, sleep maybe, dress, bus, security, preflight, taxi, t/o. That is where I get tired, all the ancillary crap, not the flying.
Even if senior pilots take them, imagine what it's going to do to the senior flight attendants. If true, IMO, it's a big plus for the company on that one. |
CDOs suck. I did several in my regional days and remember completely forgetting to do a checklist on the last leg once because we were tired. One night, or two, I can see, but once you pass that threshold the lack of a normal circadian rhythm really messes with you. If these are included without serious limitations, I'd either vote no or urge my rep to. Not to mention the staffing issue. I guess I should wait and see the actual language, but if this is accurate, it sets a poor precedent, in my opinion. Anyone think if the company gets this they won't try to expand it in our next contract?
