American loves beacons and wearables almost as much as bacon - Runway GirlRunway Girl
Might be useful technology as long as it doesn't get abused. Begs the question whether the Windows RT tablets will have tracking capability to see where pilots are at, at all times?
“A beacon allows me as a customer to find my way through the airport. A beacon shows me exactly where I am in the airport and it gives me information about things to do around me. A lot of customers go straight to the gate because they’re nervous; they don’t know if they have enough time. Now with beacon technology and a mobile app, I can tell you where you need to be, if you’re at the right gate or the wrong gate, and the services around you.”
"...He adds that wearables are a “great new technology” for airline employees, who can now get better and faster access to data to provide better customer service. “A lot of times employees are tied up with keyboards and screens and now glasses and watches [wearables] can give them data in real time and they can act on it and give better customer service.”
Arming crew members with connected wearables in-flight is on the radar for a number of industry stakeholders. SITA is already working on a project to provide Google Glass to crew, and connecting them with inflight connectivity supplied by SITA unit, OnAir."

Microsoft's most boneheaded product is about to be killed off - Jul. 23, 2014
"Microsoft is about to take the ax to one of the stupidest products it ever created.
Windows RT was supposed to usher in the tablet era for Microsoft. But Windows RT has two fatal flaws: it's missing crucial apps, and it's poorly designed. Unsurprisingly, the stripped-down operating system failed to take off. (Actually, that's an understatement: Microsoft took a $900 million writedown last year because of awful Surface RT sales, the only mainstream tablet than ran Windows RT.)"

What would be cooler is if they made watches out of bacon that airline crews could eat when there is no other food to be had.
Headline: A frenzied mob chases airline employees dressed in red spandex and rugby tackle them to the ground to try and get free plane tickets
Add not participating in free ticket giveaways wearing spandex to my C2015 demands.

A parody of a typical L&G argument. Nominations for the players and subject matter?

The RT tablet at best only has a vague idea where it is at, depending on where the router it is connected to thinks it is at. You could use a VPN to completely disguise your location, which could be handy for the international guys who like to stream Netflix and Youtube to places where that is not otherwise possible.
VPNs: What They Do, How They Work, and Why You're Dumb for Not Using One
ALPA has already negotiated protections which would cover abuses by the Company (not that I believe the Company has any agenda other than to get the thing to work, eventually).
As luck would have it, Microsoft is probably going to roll out a new version of Windows RT in September, ... wait, uhm, did what Delta just re-write work with the new version? Would they want us to turn off auto updates? What about the security and stability enhancements?
After buying a Surface Pro 2 & type cover ($1,135 out the door for $356 by stacking Staples coupons on clearance computers) I am very impressed by the form factor and capabilities. For content consumption something like an iPAD 5 or Air (or Android tablet even) would have been cheaper and that is all we need. But, the Surface line (even the RT) is a more capable device.
There is nothing wrong with RT even. It is just an odd duck and nobody much writes for it. I've been using apps from the Window store and I find that I'm just not reaching for any of my other computers or tablets any more.
As for "wearables" they are likely to become popular with the release of the Motorolla 360 next month. For $250 it is a nice looking watch:

Tax Home
As a new hire, I have a quick question. I looked at IRS Pub 463 and I'm bit unclear on where my "Tax Home" is as a commuter. If you go with the "Main place of business or work" section, than your domicile base would be your Tax Home. But if you read the "No main place of business or work" section, your Tax Home could easily be your residence in another state. So how does the IRS define a "place of business or work?" If I do a long rotation, I'm only in my domicile for the first and last day. Is that still my place of work? Thanks for the vector!

It seems if there is any justification folks claim Florida to avoid State income tax, and then there is TSquare has also figured out how to crack that nut.

I haven't seen where we burned thru all the losses carried forward. If so, DAL has made a buncha $$ the last few years and will owe taxes going forward. 2Q14 we made $1.04 share. If the MEC meeting numbers I read are accurate 3Q14 looks like est $1.24ish and 2014 est $3.25ish. Our profit sharing is based on pre-tax profit, so we got that going for us... which is nice... I liked the comment someone made about "refurbishing pilot pay." I think everyone agrees that would be nice as well. OFG
I have a long overnight at the Atlanta Sheraton tomorrow. Any recommendations for hookers and maybe some Taco Bell?
