Saw that too. What's the story?
I limit my setting alarms off to once a quarter. |

Well the story is the cost of the diverts equaled the profits for the entire month on the whale. As stupid and childish as it sounds reliability issues are why the whale was being removed from the TLV flights which was the start of where we are now ending up now. So yes I do think it could have been a factor and perhaps the tipping point in a decision that impacts all of us. The cost number for a 7ER divert that removed the aircraft from service for that and the return flight used to be in the 250-300k range. A 747 divert is going to be more.

Word is we had 3 diverts that were a part of the decision to accelerate the retirement of the 747. Curious if there are details and why they were such high profile.
The brits pop an engine in dramatic fireball right after takeoff and still continue to 5000 miles to destination. Why are we diverting so much? |

And this is what is like everywhere else.
http://kosmix.co/static/ebd80d33e36b...f7ad624840.jpg I've had 3 2-hour+ drives to go from Cumming to the airport (46 miles) in the last 6 months, weather was never a factor on those. Just time of day. Then tack on 30 more minutes for a rarity around the employee parking lot... an A bus. You guys should all move to Florida and stop paying GA income tax! :D |

The only divert I've heard of is the CDG one when Hamas start going crazygonuts. Haven't heard of reliability issues on TLV otherwise.
Fuel is still our number one cost. If you have to dump 200,000lbs. of it every time you have a problem and need to return, well...that gets expensive. |
Inexperienced international non-rev here. Which hub (CDG or AMS) is better for a family to connect to AF/KLM/AZ to an intra Europe secondary city? eZED JV fares for AF appear cheapest with ZED low. KLM and AZ are both ZED medium, but my experience with the French has been, well, French. AMS has slightly fewer flights, but both have reasonable coverage. Loads out of both don't look too bad. So which hub/airline combination will be easiest?

Takes me less time to get to the ATL from Sebring, FL! And that's after an 85 mile drive to the MCO, then a 1hr. flight to ATL.
