Analogy

Most pilots are thrilled with car purchases through USAA, COSTCO, AAA, TrueCAr etc.. I ASSume this because I have heard so many times in the lounge or talking with my coworkers on how they got the BEST car deal.

The car dealers are thrilled (they wont show this, instead they will act shocked) to see people come in with the "fair price" quoted from the above companies. That "fair" price will give the dealership a nice profit margin without the wasted time and resources that comes with negotiations. As consumers, we think USAA, COSTCO, AAA etc, are 100% on our side and are led to believe we are getting a killer car deal. On the contrary, those fair prices are hashed out between the dealership and those companies that quote them (they work with each other). <---There is nothing wrong with that. The consumer just needs to be educated and take the helm. Biz is Biz.

Here is the thing, with a little more work and a little bit more time, you can get a much better deal. USAA, COSTCO, AAA, TRUCAR--->they are an extension of the car dealership. Really a middleman for the dealership, buffering and mitigating any conflict. Your time might not be worth saving 1000-3000 dollars, but I thrive on that:D And remember, all need to be on-board. If wife cant support it, then it will fail.

The scenario above can reflect processes in other industries:) Think about it.

Hockey, perhaps you could reconsider your participation? I totally understand your sentiment and agree. But I think of it in a different way. Give them as much data/input as possible so that when they ignore it, that only reflects poorly on them. It's only a moral victory for sure, but I can look at myself in the mirror that way.

There's no way to prove they ignored it. They don't release the results.

I'm surprised guys are actually doing the bull**** survey. DALPA is going to do what they think is best for us. I learned that last contract. I will not be wasting my time on a survey this time. Mark me down as a "no" vote for the first TA we get. Don't even have to read it. I know it will not meet my expectations.

Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, no doubt. I don't know what he wants. Maybe he wants someone to beg him to participate.

I agree that participation on the survey needs to be as close to 100% as possible. In fact, I think it should be mandatory or you can't fly.

I do think the company will certainly revisit sick leave.

Agreed on both counts.

Not any more. If you check in on delta.com you have to click the request upgrade.

I did not always feel this way. The last contract was just so far off from what I wanted that I find it hard to believe that ALPA considered it. I can't be the only one that feels this way.

I would ask you to reconsider. First, its a different MEC, two, more participation equates to more leverage. 100% participation is key. Don't let others opinions and input mean more because you refuse to participate.
