It's all relative.

Ask your captain on the next long leg....

Would you rather be junior and 30, or senior and 60?

I'll take Junior and 30. The future looks great from that perspective.

Quick Question for the 777 folks:

The One Great Team tickets expire in April so I booked my wife and I to Sydney next month (Birthday present is tickets to La Boheme Opera at the Opera House).

We have only 4 full days, any suggestions to best neighborhoods in city center to stay at with AirBnB or a great hotel? Never been to Australia before.

Thanks,

Humboldt

I've been to SYD several times but I have no idea where a good place to rent a room would be, BUT, I do know two local brothers, Patrick and Matt, who run this bike shop:

Bonza Bike Tours - Sydney Guided Bike Tours & Bike Hire

If it were me, I would email them now, tell them you are a Delta pilot (he gives us a 50% discount on bike rentals, bring your ID) tell him your plans/days/desires and he will probably have some good ideas of best places to stay, things to see and do.

I rent a bike from them just about every time I go to SYD, he's got street maps and he can tell you all the best 'stuff' to see, you don't have to do a guided tour unless you want to, I usually go solo or with the F/Os, but the last time they tried to get me killed!

Even if you don't want to rent a bike (or your wife doesn't want to) Patrick can give you directions and a great map to all the highlights you'd want to see.

You can take the bikes on the ferry boats, jump off at any of the many stops, do some sight seeing, jump back on. There are also harbor tour boats with food and beer on board.

Have fun!

Not a 777 guy (Or even a DL guy) but wife and I went to SYD last fall. It's a great city. Just about everything revolves around Circular Quay as far as things to do or transportation to other areas, so I would try to find something within walking distance. We stayed in the Rocks District which was nice bc you can walk to a ton of restaurants and bars, as well as Circular Quay and Opera House. I would suggest getting OPAL Cards. They're cards that you load money on to use for all buses and ferries. The ferries are a really great way to get around and get scenic tours of the harbour without paying tour prices. We took a ferry to Manly, which is a really laid back beach village. There's a nice beach and boardwalk with a bunch of shops and restaurants. They have nice trails to hike with incredible cliff views and lots of bike rentals. We also spent a day at Bondii beach which was also very nice. Maybe a little busier but the beach itself at Bondii was nicer than Manly and we were able to do some surfing. The other thing we did is go up into the Blue Mountains. We took a train to a village called Katoomba. There's a place called scenic world that had spectacular mountain views and you could take gondolas over the valleys with waterfalls. On the way we stopped at featherdale wildlife park. We got to feed kangaroos which was pretty cool. There are tour groups that will take you to Featherdale and Blue Mountains via bus and may be a little more time efficient, but this was way cheaper and we're not tour type people. Rental cars seemed pretty reasonable too and would be a little more convenient than the train, although the train ride with the views were part of the fun.... Overall SYD is a great city. It's clean, easy to get around, and the Aussies are some of the best people you will meet, very friendly....

I had a couple night layover in SYD a couple of months ago. Do the Opera House tour before the opera--you'll appreciate the story behind the building. Manly would be a good area to look for AirBnB spots--nice area, 20-minute jet cat ride into Circular Quay. If you want you be downtown, look in The Rocks neighborhood under the Bridge. I haven't used AirBnB (expense account) bug should be possible. If you do go to Manly, the ferry pier is a short walk and drops you off right next to the Opera House. There 's a great bar/pizza place right next to the Manly Pier--can't remember the name but very good.
