Ok, all of you aircraft certification geniuses out there, here is an article that describes a 'new 737MAX', only with new wings and a taller landing gear, presumably for bigger engines. Yes, it's a 757 replacement. So, wouldn't taller landing gear make the aircraft subject to a new certification, thereby forcing Boeing to attach a modern cockpit to the fuselage?

That has nothing to do with the way the bucket system was designed and trips are assigned from the buckets.
If you have 3 reserves available and 3 2-day trips in the pot all 3 guys are working a 2-day trip regardless of their days of availability. If you happen to be in the 4 day bucket your YS preference request is ignored when assigning the trips because you are not in the 2-day bucket. How stupid is that?? Then again I'm a new guy and have no historical knowledge on how the reserve system has changed. I just know I want off of reserve ASAP. |
There are worse reserve systems out there. At B6 they can give you 18 days of short call.....for zero extra pay. Also, reserve availability periods aren't published till noon the day prior. :(

I agree with you, I don't like the way it works. However, I do think it is the most efficient use of reserves for the company. In your scenario, if you YS the 2 day then they can't use you tomorrow for a 3 day, and they also can't use the guy that you took the 2 day from.
Then again I'm a new guy and have no historical knowledge on how the reserve system has changed. I just know I want off of reserve ASAP. However, when they are short (which they are in almost every category from Thursday to Sunday) it is different. If there are three two day trips in the pot and only 3 reserves available to cover them, YS requests should be honored since you are all going to fly regardless of your days available. The current system basically doesn't allow you to request which of the three trips you prefer if your days available are greater than 2. The YS request should be re-labeled from: "Submit Preference if needed to fly" To: "Submit Preferences if needed to fly unless your days available don't match the length of trips available then we'll assign you the last one left with no regard to YS requests based on seniority." I'm sure they could find more room to fit that on the slip request page. I mean they only have 15 current options available on that page right now. |

Reserve trip assignment rules and the Yellow slip process at Delta suck balls. That's all I have to say about that.
