Also from what I understand Delta does not have a reserve as a bid category you simply bid and the results are what they are, but does this mean that if I were senior enough to hold a line but I wanted to fly on reserve status I could pick that?

To answer your question, there is no separate bid for lineholder or reserve. You bid the catergory you want. We do have the option to only bid the category if you will be a lineholder though.

As far as monthly bidding, you can bid down to reserve if you want. I do it on a regular basis. I'm around 300 out of 400 FOs in ATL on the 767. I can hold weekends off on reserve but not holding a line. If I need certain days off for family stuff, I bid those days off in PBS with the qualifier that if I can't hold them on a line, go to my reserve line bids, because I can get my 1st or 2nd choice there.

I feel it gives me better control over my QoL, though some guys don't like this feature if they are on the bubble for holding a line, as it adds a level of uncertainly to their QoL. However, since they are junior to me, who cares! (Only kidding...:D)

Gents, we can argue all we want but let's get one thing perfectly clear. There is no longer "our bases." They are all DAL bases and we are all DAL pilots. I heard your crews (front and back) say it over the PA every time I got on one of your jets last month. We will all bid or not bid DAL A/C when the time comes. We are now one whether we like it or not so lets start acting like it.

#2. The uniforms are a tradition and come with the job. Don't be that guy that joins an organization then wants to change everything about it that he does not like. You don't have to be here. We have better things to negotiate for then uniform changes. The only people that will win there is Crew Outfitters.

#3. You can bid reserve if you want. Even if you are #1 in category/base.

#4. Look at the average line values for ATL 88 guys. They are short and I bet slips are a plenty. So the $$ is there especially when GS goes to double pay. Open time on wide bodies is slim except around the holidays during the "off" season flying. So your stuck with about 70 hrs for the most part even if you want more. Individually one can do well but collectively the extra flying is not there. So as the saying goes, "Bid what you want and...." you know the rest.

Here's to US.

I've seen the planned changes, and are they expecting those to be new bases or will crews deadhead and then start their trip the subsequent day? Also for the ATL and JFK routings across the pond, are those patterns arising from those Delta bases chiefly one big chunk of days or are there a lot of 3 days to be had? For Asia flying there are few three days, the patterns are mostly 5+ plus days of flying, but if you luck out going out there and then flying south from NRT you stay roughly in a 1-2 time zone, which is nice, plus we've got laundry service at the hotel, so you don't have to haul around 5 plus days of clothes, and there are also small lockers to rent at the Narita hotel, I think the main hotel is pretty awesome.

PS Brush up on your Japanese: Hai, ni beero, kudesai (yes, two beers, please) should be enough to get ya started. :D

PSS As we come together to become one, the biggest, baddest, bestest (my kid's like that word), gaggle of aviators let us rally immediately around the one thing we can all relate to. I'm not talking about sheepskins on the cockpit seats, or a relief tube in the cockpit, but something of a higher calling. Let us collectively commit to eliminating the Argentine Generalissimo style hat AND the double breasted suit that is soooo frigging (friggin?sp) ancient. We could at the minimum learn a lot from the Skycaps in both how they wear their hats and the lack of a "Hawaii Five O" crest on theirs----definitely a plus worthy of emulation. Solution, i'm thinking a beret, with a fin flash Delta widget, natch with ANOTHER set of wings pinned to the fin flash. Plus I gotta put wings on a shirt as well???? Obviously the idea of "more with less" never caught on, eh? Are the epaulets not enough of a tip off? Maybe if we changed the bars on the epaulets to being wider with sequins? Too whiny? I think not. For one, the illusion that passengers give a hoot about brand identity that is a fallacy foisted by Clothing Designer Nazis who want to make us buy their goofball getup, and the corporate-porn loving PA weenies. Sorry to burst management's bubble, but it's the cheapest ticket online not brand name that gets them into the seats. But hey, if we gotta dress up like we're extras in a movie that is set wayyy back in time, does the double-breasted come with a velcro option---that's gonna sound classy. See ya out there, buddies! :D

PSS...funny stuff! Very well put. I am dusting off my overcoat, I am sure it will keep the cold out during those -30 walkarounds in MSP!! Much warmer than a leather jacket, I am sure.

Thats why i used the term "OUR" in quotes and all caps. I was pointing out the fact that its an off the wall term. I agree with you that there shouldn't be anymore "OUR" or "YOUR" or "NWA side" or "DAL side", etc. ;)

Then I have not problem being displaced to OUR MSP base. Come to ATL. Ya'll will love it :)

I would have been "lineholder" in my category, as would ACL65 back in late 07, per the qualifier. This qualifier is not a guarantee.

...Of course, what nailed us was age 65. We've got at least 18 or so "grays" that are sitting senior in our category.

Ah, I go to ATL every year on a All-Inclusive DAL provided trip. I still don't like it.

I agree, but hey if they want to try it than any former NWAer is welcome to ATL.
I would love to see a base such as DTW or MSP get cleared out of NWA guys.
After you experience life here, you will realize that MSP is decades above most cities.
Now grant you ATL itself is nice, I like it, it is the airport and the attitudes that are not my favorite!

Ah, you should have been in MSP the past few days. High of -2, -30 wind chills, and it is snowing as I am writing this. Lovely.

But, yes, MSP is really a great place to live if you can handle about 20 days of FRIGID (high of 0 or less) cold a year.
