That's kind of my point. It's supposed to be small, but the waterfall effect could be HUGE! ;)
Sometimes I wonder if they're trying to nudge guys to the other side of the fence. |
I say MEM is safe and so is CVG. They'll be somewhat tiny though.
Remember, if we can whipsaw our employees and our contractors we sure as hell can whipsaw our airports and local governments. MEM and CVG have a purpose against ATL and DTW. |

DC-9s are going away, so those folks will all get MD'd to other equipment. That leaves only the 320 in MEM. Right now we have about 46 or so departures a day from just LGA on the 320 (could be dated info so DYODD). NYC is screaming out for a 320 base for the shuttle (BOS for now, but the GSA contract should be up for recompete putting DCA in play for mainline). Anyway, the smallest base left for the 320's is MEM and they would just have to MD them and viola NYC 320 base. So bottom line, sometime in the next year they'll close MEM as a pilot base and then finish off the folks in CVG. I hope I'm wrong. |

Trying to remove the competition? The 330's fly to Europe now, and there is no New York base for them. There no reason to think they wouldn't fly to Europe from the ATL once there is a base there. In fact, I would expect some of the better flying will occur there. SEA will handle Asia, and ATL will fight over Europe with DTW. Who do you think is closer to the fleet planner's ear?

Especially since you can't get from LGA to JFK easily. Just fly them from LGA to ATL then ATL to Europe. Doesn't seem smart to me, but I'm sure it looks good to the bean counters. I bet JFK shrivels up, especially of the swap finally goes through.

Anyone see that Hawaiian bid that closed on the 9th? 65 new hires. For a pilot group of 440 or so that is a ton of pilots.....

I guess their whole list just got a 15% relative seniority buff. Nice potential windfall simply for running a couple new hire classes.
I wonder what would be fenced out of a deal like this... For example if we acquired them would we be fenced out of HNL? Thanks for the help TS! |
