It is for this exact reason that I have somewhat changed my philosophy on the use of assumed temperature and derated thrust on the 737-800. I think the AWABS people have been overdoing it a bit lately. There's no reason we have to be using the whole runway on every takeoff. This whole balanced field thing is OK but there are some airports I'd prefer to get up and out of there or have a little more cushion if we ever do have to abort at high speed.
I used to automatically use the top line. No longer. Now I give a closer look to the RATOW and climb limits.

Did a takeoff out of ATL the other day with a double de-rate and geez...
Southwest taxis with more thrust than we had.
Used up the whole 27R and we weren't even that heavy.

Keep in mind there is one other factor in reduced thrust use. The chance of a actual engine failure goes up almost exponentially with the thrust used. Most engine failures occur under full power takeoffs. I still like a little gravy but you have to weigh the increased chance of a engine failure at higher thrust with the decreased takeoff margins at reduced thrust.
As far as I know not a single 121 accident has been attributed to reduced thrust use. Lots of accidents from engine failures however.

On scope, I agree with you. I could be surprised... but I really don't think we will see a scope sale. Now pay increases... that's a whole different animal. I have seen ZERO fight in our union leadership when it comes to advocating restorative pay increases. ZERO.

Patience, my friend, patience. There's no point in thumping our chests before the game starts. Surveys haven't even gone out. The Delta pilots will determine what they consider desirable wages. It may or may not match your (or my) view of what is desirable, but I have complete confidence the MEC will be lined up with the majority view, and will set their opener appropriately.

Pathetic example of denial. Jury finds you guilty in no time flat. What do you do if you're an ALPA apologist?: Blame the jury.

Make sure you use that strategy during the appeal. That'll work great.

I don't mean to be disrespectful of anyone (including the juries in the two trials I referenced).

Can you put aside your own feelings about ALPA for a moment and at least agree to this concept:

One cannot simply say "the jury found you innocent/guilty so that means you definitely didn't/did do it".

The world is just a little more complicated than that.

I think we can see the consensus of the Atl pilot group by just visiting the lounge bathroom. I've seen a couple stalls now where Southwest +15% is written on the toilet condom dispensers!

I agree they will, however how the discussion is framed is what worries me and many others. Let's say we all want SWA parity plus. OK, so the MEC/NC puts that at the top of the list. Gee, if we only allowed more 65/70/76/100 seaters to be outsourced, we could get it yay! That's what concerns me.

I was just sitting near two 50+ captains in atl. Both had lanyards on that had a one word statement. "SCOPE" I think our pilots have had enough taken and are ready to fight.

Where do we get said lanyards?

I want matching set walking down the terminal: Capt's says "Scope", and mine says "What he says, plus SWA pay"

Okay. Let's take what you wrote and change the subject to scope:

Does that still work for you?

Yep, sure does. I'm hoping the pilot group thinks like you and me:

Not one more RJ, not one more seat, not one more pound.

But if not, I am ready to acknowledge I am but one vote in 12,200.
