You managed to quote me while I was editing my post. I didn't mean to say that "vacation any" is definitely a bad thing. It will allow some guys to end up with a line when they would have been bumped to reserve if they had to take their vacation as awarded. It also might make room for an extra trip to increase the dollars in a vacation month. That can be good both for the individual pilot and for the company...he gets a schedule vs reserve, or just a better schedule, and the company has one less reserve guy collecting gaurantee. However, the overall effect is that the trips get covered by less guys, which is why I say it borders on selling vacation.

OK, thanks. Will take a closer look when/if all language is out.

We can do this the nerdy way...

Or the hard core way...

^^^ the advantage to this, the FFDO's that post here can let us know who they are by pulling up their shirt.

Or just a squeeze boob sign?

Please explain how it's like selling vacation. You still get the vacation credit, thus limiting how much flying you can bid in PBS. It would help you avoid the ridiculous situation where a senior pilot (especially on international wide body categories) is unblockable due to vacation that he cannot move. The pilot is essentially penalized for having vacation. We need to fix that, and this would do it.

I would say it's concessionary due to a pilot having to give up their vacation to hold a line that they could have held otherwise. It is not the pilots fault that we have some very small categories with mostly long trips in them and the pilot should not be required to give up planning their vacation in advance in order to not get stuck on RES.

The efficiencies of PBS are huge to the company and this is an area in a "recovery contract" where we should be looking outside the concessionary box to fix it. I would propose that a pilot over 75% in category that is unblockable due only to their vacation should get a schedule built to a reduced line value but paid at a "vacation guarantee" of 70 hours or RES guarantee with out having to be placed on RES.

Maybe, but it will also up their pay as they will fly a lot more in VAC months. This will reduce the number of reserves required, and over time the PBS min staffing as more guys just take off days here and there for VAC sans a whole week.

If they are still going to credit the VAC days towards the LCW, that is a lot different, but it still will reduce RSV REQ over a three year rolling average as these trips are flown by a "line holder" and not a RSV.

You can truly "fix" this by putting a max CAP on P/U's by making vacation not just pay but credit as well.

I am one of those pilots. The scenario you paint is rare at best. It is fixed by the unblockable pilot choosing a blank regular line and being first in line for all open time. IOW, no action is required.

OTOH, vpr matrix's scenario is real - and clear - and IS concessionary.

HOW FEW PILOTS DO WE WANT TO OPERATE THIS AIRLINE WITH?
