I don't discount that it might be...I don't profess to know all, just what I have seen. I don't consider one group, overall, to be better than another, just that there are some objective differences between the two pilot groups with respect to experience and training backgrounds...I wasn't making a judgment, merely an observation of things I have seen.

Yep...I pretty much did all of those.

I found the most challenging thing about transitioning from mil to civ was taxiing around airports. There are normally a limited number of planes driving around the taxiways on a given military airfield. At a big, hub airfield, it's a totally different deal with some very fast 'n furious radio work.

First time I taxied past a mark at BRU, got yelled at and giggled when controller said, "well since you didn't stop where I asked why not keep on going" Its all a learning process, that I'm sure civ guys learned at their first regional. But BL is whether mil or civ, can you adapt to a new environment, that is what makes a good pilot...cuz Chuck Yeager sucks at CRM...#justsayin

I'll never forget my first push on ATL on the Mad Dog with all the baggage carts zipping around, catering, etc, and I realized I wasn't at Travis anymore.

On my OE, the FA dinged us and asked "was that initial?" I responded, "we don't fly initials at Delta." Dumbass.

The father of a friend of mine from college had a dad that used to do acceptance flights for the 744, said he got to watch his dad do an overhead in one. Or at least as much of an overhead that one can do in a 744.

When DIA had an airshow before it opened up, UAL a had formation flyby of a 727, 757, and 737 followed by an overhead/break. Kinda cool to see with commercial airliners.

I believe the theory that a certain percentage are tools, mil or civ background. Hard to get that leopard to change its spots.

There is one ex-civ LCA in my category that's famous for being hard on ex-mil guys. Loves to prove he knows more about aviation than they do. Just curious, do the civ guys feel any of the ex-mil LCAs abuse them likewise?
