Now it's what, 10 years after wings? So if the typical mil pilot starts training after college at say, 22, he/she will be about 33 by the time they can get out and get hired, and some will stay in for 20, then get out and be hired at 43ish.

The Civ. guys will be flying while still in college, graduate at say 22, spend 5 years on an RJ, and be 27, much younger than the 33yr. old mil guys (or 43!).
Some guys "hit the gate" just right. Back in the day when I was an IP, we had some 24 YOs who had jumped the hoops just right. Learned to fly/CFIed in school, hit the commuters at 21, upgraded right at 23, got some PIC time, and bingo, hired at 24.

Of course, many of those guys got furloughed for years, but you get the idea.

Hope we never have to face those sort of decisions going forward.
Mr. 61 was in my newhire class at Pinnacle years ago when he was 50. One of the best guys you'll ever meet.

It also all depends on how many Timbo's I do the "fake step into traffic" with or the "accidental escalator stumble" to.

You kids these days and your need to instant gratification/results.

Sometimes you gotta play the "long game" too ya know. Buy them delicious cheese burgers or whatever their favorite Southern "bubba food" is, hide their Lipitor, etc.

Gotta used multiple tactics and strategy, so as not to arouse suspicion, etc.

What would be really nice to see is of the 53% civilians hired, how many were OTS ? I'm betting it's somewhere around 20% of the 53%. So really that number is only about 10% of the total guys hired were OTS civilians. They should break the categories down even farther to;

flows/SSP.
Military
Civilian

The numbers would seem to indicate a split in hiring but that's because most of the civilians are from SSP/flow.
Does anyone have the breakdown of how many pilots were hired from each of the different regionals?

For the mil guys recently hired (or anyone else), any guesses on avg mil hours needed for hire? I'll be retiring in Aug 2016 with about 3,500 TPT and ~1,800 PIC (C-130, C-17 and a lot of King Air).

Thanks!

So I retired from the AF after 20, but spent the last year at jetBlue before getting the DAL CJO. So am I counted as a civilian or military? My guess is civilian but I consider myself military. I know a lot of my friends from the Air Force that did other 121 gigs before Delta. I don't think these numbers tell the real story.
