I think the only one as of late that had a "high success" rate for ratio of attendees to interview to hires was the Alaska ALPA event recently.

I've known more than one guy that didn't attend a single job fair, got called/hired. One had ZERO TPIC.

It's great it worked out for your ONE SPECIFIC friend, but you can't draw conclusive evidence that it's THE NORM.
We were told by Delta at INDOC that they get about 10% of their interviewees from conferences. The vast percentage come from internal recommendations. I still think it helps, and both myself and my friends who have been hired attended a conference AND had an internal rec.

It's an expense to attend, but never write off an opportunity to talk directly to a rep from a company you want to work for.

Also, the fix it email only comes if there is actually something to fix or expand on. The app could have been scored and put in a lower tier for hiring.

Don't disagree with any of that.

But the point myself (and others) are making, the percentages are SLIM.

10%? DAL hires a pretty high percentage of those interviewed. But even going high, for the hiring of 2014 at DAL that would have been 100-110ish TOTAL? I'd have to look at the number hired again.

Add up the number of pilots that attended OBAP, WAI, and whatever other event DAL attended for years 2013 and 2014.

OBAP and WAI could probably tally 2000. But extracting non-competitive and non "Tier 1" candidates would drop that number naturally. But AGAIN, 10% is a small amount considering how many competitive people are in the "12,000 apps on file".

How did they EVER find good candidates before the job fair (SCAM) ever developed?

Not here to promote the conferences, but you would have to also take out those with an internal rec. The 10% was conference only with No rec. Of the 2000 or so people (sounds high for total of pilot candidates only) at the conferences....that will lower the number in that category to choose from. What Delta was really telling us was that they needed our recs to help them find good candidates to pull from the stack, and that that the only other place they get them is a face to face somewhere like a conference. They're not going to score 10K Apps.

When I applied I was all in. Conferences, interview prep, finding internals, trying to set up a Chief Pilot meet and greet with United (unsuccessfully, but got a Hogan email eventually), and working all avenues I could find. Most are doing that I believe. Scam or not, I figured I'd make up that money later on with a hopeful CJO.

Quick question about job fairs and fix it emails. If I went to a job fair in March, met with Delta, didn't get a fix it email or interview invite, does that mean my application had no errors? Or do you only get a fix it email if you score high enough?

2000 seems high? What was the attendance at JUST WAI for 2013 and 2014, NOT counting 2015? Would you be surprised if it was almost 2000 by itself? That would exclude OBAP, NGP, and whatever else.

And that's an obvious given that DOESN'T need to be stated. I put it in quotes for a reason.......

Take it FWIW, a job fair simply gets your app "scored".

It will come if there is something on your app that's incomplete or needs more detail, AFTER being reviewed by human eyeballs.

Read here, and other forums, and talk to guys you know. Some guys get the "fix it" email, then hear back. Sometimes right away, sometimes months and months later. Some guys get a "fix it", then crickets........

Some guys DIDN'T get a "fix it", got invited to interview, got a shiny CJO.

Oh, don't get me wrong...BELIEVE me I know it's not the norm. I've been to several and haven't gotten a call. I have a very good resume, typically hit it off well with the recruiters and they typically tell me they don't understand why I haven't been called. Meh...

But saying they are a total scam or waste of time I think is also an overstatement. My friend who is now at DAL that I mentioned earlier had zero turbine PIC. Long time at Comair...but he was one of the 10% (if that is a correct number) that got in the door for spending a couple hundred bucks. Also someone mentioned Alaska...another guy I work (worked) with is now there specifically because of attending one of the job fairs.

But, I've paid my money (again) and will be going to OBAP here in a week. If nothing else I get to run into folks I haven't seen in years...it's happened every time. And if it means I get to be one of the 10%ers out of the group even better. For me it's hard to justify not spending $200 for a ticket when it could be the golden ticket that lands me a multi-million dollar career at my carrier of choice.

For those of you that have spotless apps and get the call without attending good on ya...I wish I was in that group. But since I've had my apps in with everyone since 08 (excluding AA since they are new to the party) and have yet to get a call I'm doing any and everything I can to get the odds tipped in my favor and have first hand experience and knowledge that sometimes the job fair is the trigger.

I'm not disagreeing with you here. Somewhere there's an exact number comprised of total conference attendees minus everyone but the pilot job seekers minus those with a rec.

I have no clue on the exact number....but it doesn't matter. People will choose to go or not. I felt it was worth the money to speak with reps from the companies.

Look, I wait 6 years to get call back and this time I passed. I'm proof that persistence pay off, I study my butt off, I have 12 letters of ref.
It can be done, is not easy, but I was not even born this country people and I Can do it.

I started with Delta 6-9 months ago, but I've tried to keep up with the latest that's going on with hiring. A guy I know up at the squadron showed me an e-mail he received from the hiring department this week. It said, "Thanks for your service. We would like to offer you an interview now, but we know you have a military commitment right now. When you are 90 days out from being available, please call us and we will set up your interview." He is about a year out from being available.

Has anyone else ever received one of these, or even heard of them? This was a first for me. Either way....if you're delaying sending in your app because you think your availability date is too far away.....you're probably wrong. Get your app in now!
