Speaking of holidays - do they run the sims like they fly the line, over holidays?

Almost my entire class has sims that bracket Thanksgiving. To the best of my knowledge nobody was scheduled on Thursday. Take that for what it's worth.

We've always had E periods. The deal with them is that only new hires are allowed to be scheduled in them. Contractually, no line pilot can fly an E period. I thought West Coast based pilots could be scheduled for an E period in ATL. It barely falls outside the "no training between 0100 - 0500 base time" rule. I had heard they started scheduling some of those guys for E period CQ. I haven't looked to confirm though.

TBH I'm not sure how many people in my class were assigned E-periods. The instructor said they were new, but probably meant exactly what you wrote. I personally don't have any, although about half my sims are a-period with the 0500 brief. My guess is I avoided the e-period since my sim partner is a 7ER FO upgrading to 717 captain.

They can't be scheduled for a normal E period. The company has compressed the 737 SIM times so they can stick the west coast guys into E period sims. They have not shortened any other sim times. Kind of a cheesy way around the limit.

"7ER" = All 757/767 models (757-200, -300, 767-300, 767-300ER) except the 767-400, which is the "765."
