Haven't done international flying, but I don't think it is that big of a deal to get wifi to every gate we use in the world. I guarantee you that every airport we serve has internet access. Takes some money and the Geek Squad to run some wires and place routers everywhere. It's not there right now because we haven't needed it yet. I don't think it is that big of a project, but I may be wrong.

I'll bet we have satellite wifi routers on every airplane within 5 years that work globally. I'm sure they will break though, so wifi at all gates is probably more likely. Then it all goes to hell when we get a solar flare and we will have to call badflaps and figure out how to plan and file a flight.

That isn't the case now so I don't worry about it. I'm sure the company will have a reassuring solution for you in the future. Relax and have a little faith that the company will continue to provide a paper flight plan until an alternative method of upload is implemented. You are taking the word "Paperless" too literally. I'm sure we will always have printer paper and kleenex in the cockpits.

You're correct. It isn't a big deal or that big of a project to set up wifi flight plan uploads at out stations. Some people just like to make a mountain out of a mole hill and think it's going to take a Rube Goldberg type effort to make it happen.

And we try to remember how to fly across the ocean for 15 hours with only a whisky compass and a wiz wheel!

There is always manual entry ya know. Takes about a minute. Much easier than haphazardly searching for open connections in the likes of Dubai, Russia and Japan. Do you always put forth so much effort to do such a minimal task? Here are the plans to build a light switch if you're interested

Both are high frequency ops. 4-5 leg days are common and always will be. ATL has vastly superior trip mixes right now, whereas NYC is predominately shorter, radically non commutable trips. That will likely change somewhat, but will always remain prevalent as that is the nature of NYC domestic particularly high cycle short hop flying.

Reserve utilization is completely different that it will be in a few short months. For a while bases got ahead/fat for anticipated deliveries. That is starting to settle and probably by summer or fall at the latest, all bases will be short/min staffed all of the time.

Can anybody give me an idea how long it might take to get award ATL320B if I start out as NYC320B in March? Also, what type of trips could a newbie expect out of ATL? Thanks in advance.

Thanks Gloopy. I'm trying to figure out how likely it is that ATL 717 will see movement again. Is there an AE coming out soon?

AE should be out the end of Feb or beginning of March. New hire seat locks on the 717 are just now starting to expire, so I would expect to see some new hires leave the 717, creating some movement in the category....
