But does the commuter policy apply to leisure travel? Let's say you're in Europe try two flights to get back to base a day before your trip, are you covered?
No. You probably should play it safe and come back a day early. As far as I know, commuting in from Europe doesn't count.

Don't think there is any language that says it only applies to USA only we have guys who live in Jerusalem, and Germany

I'm coming back a day early for sure. I even have two flights to get me back a day early. I was just wondering in case I needed a plan D

I stand corrected. That's one heck of a commute...to each his own.

Yup, I commuted for a bit. Most of the time DTW-LGA was simple, the rest of the time it was impossible without getting a positive space from scheduling. But that was winter off season. I couldn't wait to get back to living in base, even though it meant another year of reserve. I was still home more than commuting to LGA. Thanks to the results of 16-03, I'll probably be back on reserve again... with still no interest in bidding to New York for a line.... Now, a return to the 200 in DTW hasn't been ruled out. (unfortunately it doesn't appear that there will be any DTW or MSP captain vacancies anytime soon)

I've seen their base management let them into the hallway, seems like that's their best route to get in.

As per DTW PD the Skywest crew member has to be in uniform and only another Skywest crew member or management type can piggyback them in or out.

Commuter policy only applies for commuting from the nearest airline served airport to your base, not if you are stuck on vacation. If you live in Munich and that is where your home address is on file with the company you are good, if you live in Omaha and are just checking out Octoberfest, you are on your own.

16-3 final award shows company reduced their hour requirements by 28% to meet the remaining vacancies; very interesting. 680 company hours and roughly 1700 TT was the bottom of the barrel this time around, what's next?
