From an odds standpoint, few new-hires are likely to get the E-175. There will be comparatively few in operation for at least a year or so and Envoy is projected to flow twice as many captains as they upgrade for the next 18 months indicating Envoy will still shrink significantly. I'd plan on the E-145, but ORD sounds possible.
Because FO's cannot bid jet-to-jet, that vacant 175 seat would likely go to a new-hire.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. The 175 went very senior. When the upgrade bid comes out, you're going to see a lot of the senior FO's who were awarded 175 FO, upgrading to CA on either the 145 or CRJ. This leaves that 175 FO seat vacant.

The first bird doesn't arrive until November and hits the line in about February IIRC. Between now and a YEAR from now, perhaps 15 or so of those birds will be in operation. That's 75 F/O's or a little less. I'll bet the overwhelming majority of those F/O's will NOT be among the 175 or so F/O's that upgrade over the next year (14.7 per month) based on projections. As such, MOST new-hires over the next year will be stuck in the 145 and cannot bid the E-175.
However, this may be good news as a few who DO get the 175 over the next year will be junior reserve for quite awhile and that's a bummer. Remember, based on the Volleyball's projections, Envoy is slated to SHRINK (upgrading HALF the captains they PROJECT to flow). Now pilots hired a year from now will likely have a stronger chance of flying that shiny new E-175, but airlines in a contracting mode and plan to remain that way like Envoy don't usually provide rapid movement despite the glowing projections of fuzzy, self-serving salesman or those on a crusade.

After they upgrade it will go junior because the other FO's can't bid it.

Not true. The majority of guys on the 175 are the ones that are going to upgrade next. The vast majority of FO's that got the 175 Award are people who were awarded CA then displaced in the same bid (about 100 FO's were) on this last vacancy/displacement bid. That is how they were all able to go jet to jet as an FO.. And that is why the 175 is senior right now. You would know this if you worked here.
After they upgrade it will go junior because the other FO's can't bid it.

More correct indeed. On the whole, I would say that the majority of new-hires will be placed in the 175. That is where the growth is and as such, that is where the majority of new-hires will go. Simple math.
