On RAP you just wait for a phone call so make sure your ringer is turned up. If a morning standby shift is open, you'll get the call right at 4 am. And basically all standby shifts you get called for will be your minimum call out time. But if you're being called for an actual trip, you might get more time as notice. Say there is a 0945 sign in trip that is open, you might get a call around 0600. But don't bank on it.

When called for standby, you're only filling in for that shift. So in ORD for example, if you get called at 0400 for the 0600-1400 standby, you get the full shift. But if that's already assigned and they use that standby, you might get the call at 0800 to come sit standby and finish out that original shift of 1000-1400. They won't invent new shifts for you.

Something to be careful on is that the commuter hotels are treating you like a normal guest. So if you get a hotel for a night and you're RAP 1000, you can't just hang around all day in the room as you please waiting for a call. You might want to negotiate with the hotel a late checkout if able, otherwise you gotta be out by normal checkout time.

Yes. You do not have to report or do anything unless you’re called. Go explore or work out etc.

I was called this morning at 0401 to sit standby at JFK. Your shift does change to standby. I’ve been called a lot at 0400.

Where do you have to sit in the airport? Do you have to be in the crew lounge while on standby? Or they just call you on the phone if they need you?

Buy the Admiral Club membership with the bonus the company is giving you. Eat- shower sleep for free.

Our crew lounges are disgusting.

Don’t be jealous because soon your f/o will have more time and experience than you plus be able to see your douche bag ways as soon as you sit down. 😂
Cadets haven't done deadly squat for this company.

Well, this is an interesting question. Essentially there are two answers Cellphone/no cellphone pilots. If you Have a cellphone then be somewhere reasonably close to your terminal. Those that say "on airport property" are just leading you to trouble. Pretty sure if You just head out to the lookout spot at DFW and claim you are on airport property it's not going to fly. I doubt you would win that grievance, but hey give it a shot and let me know how it goes.

If you do not have/forgot your cell phone then you need to be in the crew room or quiet room. They have(should) phones where they can call you. If you need a meal break just advise CS and tell them you will be back in 30-40 minutes.

Don't worry about rushing off to the plane as soon as they call you. There is no time limit you have to be there by. Just get your things and head over there. If you are eating then advise CS you are going to finish your food and then head over there. If they call you at lunch time and you haven't eaten then get some food before you get there and advise CS you are taking a meal break. Just don't be that guy that deliberately tries to make it delayed because you think you are sticking it to the man. You aren't.

I feel like I have seen this in the contract but can’t find it any reference?

There is NOTHING in the contract that require us to have cell phones.

All they have on file is my home landline. If I'm sitting RR, they can call the crew room.

Okay, so here's my question. I live a little over an hour from LGA, but give myself 2 hours to get there. JFK takes 1.5 hours but would have to give myself 2.5 to get there. I have well over 1000 hours 121 so looking at being forced to upgrade.
1. How many days off a month? Do you bid on them? If so, are any GDO or can CS just do what they want with them?
2. It sounds like you don't bid on LCR/SCR? CS just decides each night what they want for the following day?
3. How often would I be looking at airport standby each month? Those tolls add up...
4. I use Waze and have never been late to work, but if you hit bad traffic and take a picture of it on Waze can you commuter clause?
5. What else am I missing?
Trying to get as much info as I can before making that lateral move.
