Seems pretty apparent that it’s one of the goals.....but I doubt it will work. It’s not like these dudes have a ton of options, at least not that they will accept. They also have their own seniority to insulate them. Any pain felt at the top is nothing compared to the mid-level guys. The bottom will just continue to leave, which solves nothing.
2) Higher capacity aircraft mean less airframes for the same number of seats. So a smaller pilot group flying bigger planes means less overall pilot pay, decreasing cost per seat mile.
3) lower retraining fees, hotel fees, administrative burden, and overhead.
This is not how this industry works.
Regionals are paid to move metal from point A to B. Our pay is not based on how many people we move. Sometimes we move zero passengers and still get paid.

I’d say that you’re both correct. The regional model is fee-for-departure, but the bigger planes could result in fewer segments. If you fly a 50-seater to BTR 4 times a day, you could replace that with a 70-seater and do it 3 times a day.

And invite the competition. The hub and spoke model requires lots of flights to out stations to work. If what you are suggesting was feasible why not do one flight a day a 200 seater?

I’d be very happy if UAL decided to put 2 737s or Airbus 320’s instead of RJs. That would be good for me AND anybody who wants to move on. If the “stepping stone” gets too big, people decide not to step forward.......which is XJT’s biggest issue.

I agree completely. I would be happy as well. The customers would not tolerate it though.

People who live in outstation towns are pretty much a captive audience. That’s why regional service can be so bad and still get used. There’s really no other alternative. If you live in BTR and need to get to Houston........you have exactly ONE option.
