That is the lamest, sorriest, saddest line of total bull SH!t I've ever heard! What an entitled little brat! So, let me get this straight.....you'll do the simplest little thing your company requires if they pay you more? You did know the wages when you took the job, right? But yet you gladly applied and showed up for class. Now you want more or your not putting out what you agreed to! Sad.....

I think what a lot of guys are saying is that they will be at work early plenty early. It's about making your way all the way out to operations to check in at some computer when you have to come all the way back to where you came from.
Further more, why do you have to check in at some computer when you start a trip but they allow you to just go to your gate while you are in the middle of the trip. They tell you to be there 45 minutes early and we are. Just makes no sense really. Just do away with the whole computer check in thing and treat people like grown ups. If you can't be trusted to be there an hour before your trip starts then why hire a person?

Yup I knew the wages and I intend to be part of the pilot group with enough balls to try and fix this industry. Starting with not checking in if I'm not getting paid. I'll check in all day if you pay me my hourly wage when I check in.... and yes I do want more. Maybe you and your camel pack of kool aid can maybe start fueling your own planes and chucking your own bags to help the company save a few dollars. Have a little pride in what you do and what you've put into this career.
So, why do you do the walk around, get the clearance, load the flight plan? Heck, your not getting paid, right? That argument is as lame as the last one! I could give a crap about the duty in, but i don't buy the pay me more arguement and I'll duty in sorry excuse. It's pretty lame, and reall....how taxing is pushing a few buttons on a computer? You print out a pairing before you fly, right? Do they pay you enough for that?
And where the hell do you draw the line between having no heartburn over dutying in and fueling the plane? Sorry, but I have way more pride in what I do than anyone who needs more money to freaking duty in so the company knows you got to the assignment. Makes perfect sense to me. In fact, the ones who are so against it are the sorry sacks that don't have enough pride and personal responsibility to get to work on time.

This is drifting way too far. All I'm saying is , if the company wants something extra from me, I want something extra from them. I don't want to give up anything more than what has already been taken.

I can't think of many jobs that require you to show up to work and not get paid WHILE YOU ARE WORKING!!! As you're going through your flows and checklist and the ramper is sitting on his fat *** waiting for you he is getting paid. The same applies to the gate agents, wheel chair pushers, janitors food court staff and every other GD person at the airport! Why do you expect to not be paid while you are doing pre-flight duties? Why would you want to check in 1 hour prior yet not get paid until the brake is dropped at go time? What is the matter with you?

I can't even believe this argument. If they want us to check in fine, but there is no reason why it can't be at the gate. If I would have to go all the way to the crew room and back to check in, I would literally have to leave my house 1 hour earlier to ensure I made it within the window. Is there any other job where workers wouldn't demand to be paid if they had to leave their homes 2 hours before their shift started? Give me a break. I'm so tired of the mentality of today's pilots. The way most pilots are nowadays is honestly my biggest complaint out of everything else. I can deal with all the BS to an extent, but having to listen to all these a-holes who feel entitled to everything and are constantly willing to suck off management to stay competitive is enough to make you sick. If are so worried about making a company cost competitive, go to business school and get a job in management so it can be your job. I'm not sitting back and letting this career degrade further and further. Pay us what we're worth, stop trying to pull these BS policies that make us lose even more of our time without paying us, and for Gods sake, stop trying to preach to us how we need to cut costs to stay competitive while you get in your mercedes and drive to your million dollar house on the lake and board your yaht for dinner while we go home and collect our $2000 monthly check. You guys are hilarious. Now you want to change the way the airline industry pays, and has paid for decades! Let me ask you this....if they paid you for every duty hour, do you think you could/would be paid at your current hourly rate? That would be over a 200% increase. Airlines don't pay that way. Did you know that when you happily took the job?
Next, comparing to a ramper or wheel chair pusher is laughable. They make $8 per hour. What do you make? I'll take my $80 anyway. If I want paid for every duty hour, I'm guessing it would be much less and probably all come out the same.
As for the leaving a whole extra hour early. My employee bus drops me off at the crew lounge - where I go ahead and take 10 seconds and duty in. Even if the bus dropped me off at the furthest point in the airport from the crew lounge, I'm certain it would take me much less time than an extra hour to get there. (although I do agree with dutying in at the gate).
You are a bitter dude. I feel sorry for you and all your misguided anger. Maybe you should go be a ramper so you get paid for "sitting on your ass all day"!
