You guys are hilarious. Now you want to change the way the airline industry pays, and has paid for decades! Let me ask you this....if they paid you for every duty hour, do you think you could/would be paid at your current hourly rate? That would be over a 200% increase. Airlines don't pay that way. Did you know that when you happily took the job?

If I want paid for every duty hour, I'm guessing it would be much less and probably all come out the same.
I would love to change the way we get paid so that we are paid "on the clock" from show time to the end of debrief time even if its for a reasonable riase in total compensation. What's wrong with that?

So? Why shouldn't we be paid for every duty hour? If I showed up for a trip tomorrow, and was informed that the pay would be per duty hour, and was told the pay rate would be reasonably adjusted less than the previous rate, I would be pretty excited about that. It'd be a step in the right direction. Should we not get paid when the door is open just because that's the way it's always been done? Maybe then, those surprise 16 hour duty days wouldn't be so insulting. (big maybe)

I just don't understand defending this position... It may not be realistic to expect the compensation standard to change any time soon; but to tout it so positively as you is nothing short of perplexing.

Because it's NOT DONE THAT WAY!!! Do you just b!tch on the internet about how bad your job is or have you volunteered for your negotiating committee, sat across the table from management and tried to negotiate that for us - your revolutionary new idea? We'd all appreciate it! Have you even once called your reps and demanded we be paid like this, because you think we should? What did they say? Did they laugh?

It's stupid to debate this. It's not happening. You would see a straight salary long before hourly pay for every duty hour.

There is nothing wrong with it....it would just be a large reduction in your rate and probably would come out even at the end. Do you really think it would happen? With the fact that EVERY SINGLE other airline at every segment of the industry pays the way we currently do? In my one mans humble opinion, despite how we feel about the merits of the concept, this change will not be made. It's probably never been discussed, so why are we? You guys will argue anything. If I suggested this, you would argue me the other way!

Next, comparing to a ramper or wheel chair pusher is laughable. They make $8 per hour. What do you make? I'll take my $80 anyway. If I want paid for every duty hour, I'm guessing it would be much less and probably all come out the same.

As for the leaving a whole extra hour early. My employee bus drops me off at the crew lounge - where I go ahead and take 10 seconds and duty in. Even if the bus dropped me off at the furthest point in the airport from the crew lounge, I'm certain it would take me much less time than an extra hour to get there. (although I do agree with dutying in at the gate).

You are a bitter dude. I feel sorry for you and all your misguided anger. Maybe you should go be a ramper so you get paid for "sitting on your ass all day"!
Not to add to this train wreck of a thread but rampers in ATL make more than 8$ an hour. I made more money working for Delta on the ramp in ATL while I was furloughed then flying.....so sad, but true.

This thread, like many other threads involving certain United-supporting crews, is just a bunch of whining... wahhh wahhhh wahhhh. It isn't very attractive, but I'm sure their ex-girlfriends have told them that too and it fell on deaf ears.

SWA doesn't pay their pilots the same way we currently do. Just saying.

So, your defense is that we shouldn't be upset because it's tradition? Do you realize how poor of an argument that is?

Not b!itcing here, merely joining the discussion in pointing out how silly our compensation is. I'd much rather dedicate time to contacting reps about better overall compensation and better work rules. You seem to be far more worked up about this than I. Again, I'm not sure why you're defending this. My point is: It's a silly way to be paid, and it's not going away any time soon. Why is it such a negative thing to say?

The logical answer would be to have stronger duty rigs.
