So, does the commuter clause apply to those who live in base. It is snowing after all and the roads are going to be worse in the morning.

I would imagine so. IMO it may also be a discretionary decision based on the conversation with you and your CP. I commuted into a frozen DTW one night and within 200ft of my crashpad my transmission cooler line burst and leaked out all of the transmission fluid. I called CS, got a TBD for the trip next day and later got it converted to a CPP by the base CP. YMMV.

I am pretty sure it does. I had a Captain tell me he used it for a flat tire one day.

Yes.

Here is the MOU document for the commuter clause for anyone who wants to review it.

Anyone try or have to use this today? All interstate routes I would take are still showing blocked and I can't get through to CS. Will begin CYA maneuvers soon….

Called scheduling, and yep, we need you to come in. Told 'em "listen I ain't taking the chance so I'm not coming in". Even the ATL airport was iced up and just about everything cancelled, but, hey, you're still coming in right? So true!

If you commuter clause out and your flight gets cancelled anyway I'm guessing no pay protection?

Do folks have to not call CS, stay at home and hope the flight cancells to get paid?

I'm guessing it will work that way. I am already going to be late but I don't plan on invoking the commuter clause for another hour and even then I am hoping the email gets lost in the system! Either way, I'm not trying to drive in this mess - Atlanta drivers are bad enough, through in severe icing…..

The governor of Georgia has declared a state of emergency. This means no one is required to show up for work (they want to keep people off the roads and clean up yesterday's mess ITP). ASA will have to give out excused commuter clauses or I suspect they'll have some hard questions to answer. Call in, then relax with your favorite beverage. Enjoy the snow week.
