Hiring / training
#4071
There was more than one in my new hire class who made it through the ATP Jets course, with an Airbus type, and then failed out of training when they got to F9 Sims in DEN/MCO... It would be pretty ironic to have a 320 type and an ATP and not be hire-able anywhere (at least for a while) because you couldn't get through training at a 121... Both examples I'm thinking of also spent most of their bonus money too...
In regards to the Bonus Money that's gunna hurt them because you sign a Promissory Note prior to getting that money. If you leave before 3 years you owe it back plus interest. If you stay 3 years you get the 'loan' forgiven and a W-2 for income taxes to pay on it.

I have heard that as well. As someone who is about to dive into all that I have been studying more than anything committing as much to memory as possible. From what I have heard the Denver training is significantly harder than the Type training at ATPJETS. Granted its all based on the Pilot right? If you love bookwork and studying like I do, you may do much better than someone who skims by by the skin of their teeth. I have dedicated the past 6 weeks to ground school, Airbus Laws, Emergency Procedure Memory Flows, and memorizing the limitations of the Airbus including Airspeeds, Weight Limits, Autoflight, Fuel, Oxygen, Electrical, EGPWS, Engine Starting Procedures and timings, G Limits, Door Speeds, Air Cond/Pressurization, Reverse Thrust Usage, Gear Flaps Slats, Hydraulics, IRU, Powerplant, and APU limitations. The reality of it is, you are going from a world of Single Engine Piston for many of these Cadets and they do not realize how much studying and work it takes to earn your spot. You aren't a student Pilot anymore this is the big leagues and you either have the self-motivation, focus and drive to get there or you don't. No one will hold your hand on this stuff. You're flying a 162,000 Lb Aircraft this isn't the time to slack.

Takeoffs, landings, go around, complex specials, simple specials, descend via, localizer, gps, rnpar, autolands., DIAFRPPS, You name it.
Don’t laugh but I still fool around on that thing from time to time. I’ll shoot LOC approaches on it from time to time to get ready for recurrent just because I only see them maybe twice a year otherwise. Good luck man.

If you want some advice. You’ll get the ETHOS app with an FMS simulator. I played on that thing for hours as a new hire. It was like playing call of duty or candy crush. It got pretty addictive actually. Lol

I keep hearing how difficult 121 training is in various posts and I trust the posters only mean to share a reality versus discourage anyone. My sincere question is this, how does F9 Training compare to 121 training at a regional? Are regional airline training classes more geared towards GA pilots than F9s? Would those same pilots that washed out at F9 stood a better chance at _______ regional?
EDIT: yeah. It’s not as well geared towards 0 experience guys as compared to the regionals. But, I think they’ll help you succeed unless you very seriously struggle to fly.
What I’m trying to say is if you got an offer to come here vs a regional, (and you like what we have to offer) you should come here.

What’s upgrade times looking like nowadays ?
I can only go off of 3 weeks worth of training here but FWIW, coming from a regional the training here has been leaps and bounds better than my old place. Less confusing limitations to memorize, relatively short flows due to automation. The fail rate is very low here currently we were told. My instructor for ground school has been great, the schedule is less taxing as well. I think my regional ground school was 6 on 1 off for 24 days. The training department here treats you like professionals instead of middle school kids

I showed up 20 mins before they wanted us there in the AM. Didn't even leave the HQ to go to the airport until about 5:45pm.... We were there ALL. DAY. So plan accordingly. I managed to make a 7:30pm flight home.
