What I do know is that they have lots of airplanes on order. I think in general the plan is to double in size in the next 5ish years. I don't have any sources to back that up, it's just what I've heard.

You can look at it that way but this company would be dumb enough to take all those orders tomorrow if they could... about a year and a half ago, everything ran on 40 minute turns, 24/7... they tried to do too much with not enough airplanes... every time they get another aircraft in service, the Denver mint, now located at 7001 tower rd, prints even more money... they want those airplanes and they want them yesterday...

The growth hasn't even started yet either... the December bid pack shows 61 ac and at the end of January, its only 57

We are suppose to go from 63 at the end of 2016 to 72 at the end of 2017. Net growth of 9 assuming deliveries do not get delayed.

I have seen the spreadsheet of the current plan for 2017 for the lease returns however that is set as of 12/21/2016. What I do know is a total of 3 A319's are getting lease returned between Jan and Feb. and 7 A320's are getting lease returned between Jan-Jun. Then after June no more lease returns for the remainder of the year. So many of these lease returns are swapping out for an A320Neo or A321.

That seems to make sense if you look at the hiring numbers. It appears that F9 is staffed with appx 9 crews per plane. That nets you another 162 pilots needed and attrition of around 6 per month requires at least 234 pilots hired in 2017.

EDIT: If you want exact numbers, the latest vacancy to close gave the most junior ORD spot to an October 2016 hire, with an effective date of March 2017.
Thanks for taking your time and answering my question.

I've heard as high as 79 potential planes on property at the end of 2017. If F9 gets favorable terms from the lessors to keep the planes, they will keep the planes.

Aren't they forecasting to hire 300-350 pilots this year?

hiring and upgrade numbers are always a floating number. much similar to the fleet size. since i have been here we have not grown a single frame.

I'm not drinking the kool aid, just repeating what J.N, J.C and J.P all said at one point or another last month.
I'm a nihilist at heart. It would go against my beliefs to actually put any faith in what management says.
