I would take this with a grain of salt.
One of the few tools F9 has to offer new applicants is the potential for growth and a quick upgrade. Historically, F9 hasn't hired 300 in a year. They always "leak" promises of big numbers, but I haven't seen it.
We're going to hire 25 per month for the foreseeable future. Followed a few months later with "We can't hire because we need the training guys on the line this summer because we're really busy. Followed within a matter of weeks by a Company Offered Leave of Absence because we're overstaffed.
Consider this to be a preview of life at Frontier. My best guess is that we vacillate between (A) Nobody knows what's going on from one month to the next and/or (B) We know exactly what's going on, but we're going to keep it under wraps until some newspaper leaks the story and we have to fess up.
They get you hooked by dangling whatever carrot is necessary at the moment.

Frontier was always one of the companies I wanted to work for. I spent more time in their jumpseats than any other airline. Great pilot group, good bases and I truly believe(ed) in their service and product, but after the whole RAH acquisition, I wasn't so sure.
I will probably still apply and hope everything will work out for Frontier!

Depends on whether they open Filthy or not
But assuming no undesirable base with super juniority...
Right now upgrade is at 3 years and reaches down 60% from top of list.
Current # of Pilots is roughly 1150. So if you're hired today you'd be ~#1150
Factor some attrition so lets say minus 200 over next 3 years, hence todays newhire would be #950 when it matters.
You'd need ~1580 pilots on property for #950 to be ~60% down the list to have a shot at upgrade.
So from here we gotta hire ~630 to get to 1580 - factoring the minus 200 attrition
My conclusion:
Hiring ~210 a year would put you at 3 year upgrade
Hiring ~160 a year would put you at 4 year upgrade
Hiring ~130 a year would put you at 5 year upgrade
So you have to roll the dice based on what you think is most likely to happen - Grow, Shrink, or Stay the same.
P.S. ....Last 3.5 years has seen an average gain of ~130 pilots /year.

And just to be fair the 130 pilots / year gain over the last 3.5 years I mention is NET gain, after attrition. So hiring numbers were quite a bit above that.

To add to what the previous posters wrote. Here is my takeaway about F9 for 2017
1. I had an offer to interview at F9 on April 13. On March 30, it was cancelled. I recalled thinking "ok no problem it happens"
2. They rescheduled that april 13 interview for May 17. Then on May 2 it was cancelled AGAIN!
3. I receive NO phone calls or emails from May 2 up until July 14. A very nice man called me unexpectedly and gave me the chance to interview with a VERY short 6 day notice on July 20. I was open and honest and just couldnt do it in that short of notice
4. I interviewed today, August 4 and after spending all day with the wonderful hiring folks at F9, I was NOT selected. (I was the first group to be 86'd). Whether i interviewed poorly or not, I will probably never know. HOWEVER points 1-3 that i previously mentioned, i have to say make me very skeptical of Frontier. Does this happen everywhere? You bet, but it puzzles me that they went on and on about the need to hire hundreds of pilots for growth.
Should an applicant be treated this way? Well i guess thats for all of you wonderful guys at F9 to flame me away on.
I wish you guys the best of luck on your contract negotiations!
Perhaps there is no shortage after all?

The reason why you didn't get it it because you didn't kiss ass enough of those former Skywest FOs that have only been at frontier for about 2 years but are somehow qualified to hire you, total douchebags. One guy was like less than a year there! Or maybe it was that weirdo tall old bald guy. Maybe he didn't like you. Honestly frontier was a joke, some regionals have it better. they claim they want to hire everyone but are bizarrely selective. 8 hours of forced mingling and ass kissing what a joke.

I'm sorry you weren't selected. A little introspection could go a long way. Would you have hired someone with your attitude? Maybe you did everything right at the interview, but disingenuousness is easy to smell.
