I think he is referring to flying on a 135 certificate as the PIC in VFR conditions.

In a former life, I did the same thing. You have to comply with the time requirements of 135.243 and have an instrument rating. However, you cannot operate in IFR conditions until you reach the full 135 mins.

I flew VFR 135 until I met the mins for full 135, then "switched; meaning I could take off on the days it was 500' and 1SM. Before I met the mins, they had to call another pilot.

I don't understand that part. As far as a I know... I had a check for 135 PIC and I fly charters and cargo, solo. My company don't use dual pilot unless is a training flight which obviously is one trainee and the CFI. That's how I made the most of my PIC time. Flying cargo and Pax over the Caribbean.

So as a matter of fact the 135 VFR captain is the same as a 135 IFR captain, only that you cannot fly IFR and time minimums for applicability are different. For both position the pilot have to be Instrument Rated.

VFR:

Read Part 135.243 (b)(1)(2)(3)

IFR:

I want get in the airplane and go to SoCal in one shot. For the amt of time I spend flying around BOS JFK DCA RDU in one day I could go to JFK to CDG. To each is own though. Some guys like it and will stay. Thats great, less compeition for me I'm hoping by next yr a few of my target airlines will start hiring. JB and DAL. i like both of them. That puts me at 26-27yrs old. I spent my last few yrs building a network for reccomendations. It can be done. So once you get in, make friends with a lot ppl. People lead to people. Good Luck.
And how much Turbine PIC time do you have? You think with the way the industry is, and when hiring resumes with tons of Captains at regionals and elswhere with mucho CA time you will be competive? My guess not. Not knocking, just a reality check. Why, because I was in your shoes, thinking the same thing as I swung the gear for many years. Even with 1000+hrs of left seat time, I couldn't get my application pulled. You never know till you try, but look at those who have been hired at those companies, and I think you will see a very small percent of those with SIC time and no ATP are very few and far between. Good luck.

My apologies I'm not familiar with the VFR 135 stuff since my company flies dual, I thought that the subject poster was talking about something different. Good luck on your interview

Cliff, you should look at Evergreen Airlines. They are looking to hire about 40 FOs this year. They are gettig a couple more 747s this year. Good Luck!

Absolutely I'm applying. I was there in '08, and right now I'd be considered a low time guy, but I'm still going to put the application in. I've kept in touch with most everybody that I worked with at AA, so I've got a few internal recommendations lined up.

I may not have the flight time, but I have every single other qualification met. I'm going to apply on Monday after I get my 1st class medical renewed. Besides, what could it hurt? I have a lot better chances of getting called by putting in an app than without, and if I don't get a call, life goes on!

Good luck to everybody.
