This is getting ridiculous!
I've seen it move around quite a bit in the past year. . .Sometimes downtown at around 22 hours. . . and then other times at Sofitel or Aloft at just less than 23 hours. Yes, it is ridiculous. That is too long to stay at an airport hotel.

How else can they maintain a "cost neutral" CBA?

Really? Which hotel? I've got 20.5 coming up at the Westin. Which is at the airport.

Default reserve/days off question:

here's a scenario:

you're on reserve, let's say 4 day bucket. they give you a 4 day trip that ends at 9pm in your base. during the trip, there's a big irop. they change your trip, change your flights, so you are now scheduled to get done at 2:20am into your day off.

do you get an extra day off?

asking for a friend.

No, it's still counted as day 4 . Only if there is a rest period on the last day is it paid as a day off . Which in that case if he did get a rest period into his day off he would get JRA pay and Premium for a minimum of 5 hours or what ever he blocks on the 5th day , usually the leg string him back to base .

There's no rest period necessary. If he was reassigned while on the trip, even if it just goes a minute after originally scheduled pairing, that is an emergency assignment which pays 5 hours, or block whichever is greater, at JRA/EMA.

If it was just a delay into your day off then there is no extra pay.
