Sounds like it probably will. We have all learned here though. Conversations with the guys on the top of the seniority list on 4 days trips will get fun after this. Junior guys will be so helpful and eager knowing the guy sitting in the seat next to them would rather have them unemployed to save themselves.

I thought you and a few others wanted to take a reduced guarantee to save people. A nice big pay cut for the junior, to save the most junior - enjoy your martyrdom!
Actually, I got the sense that JO wasn’t that interested in ALPA plane. Sounded to me like he’s more interested in a cut across the board.
Oops....I meant to quote MesaPilot.

I am, but I’m not a junior pilot. I am however probably the youngest “senior” captain and have a different outlook than most of the older generation in our workforce. I’m likely to not be affect by this other than loosing my awesome 20+ days off every month. I just have sympathy for my FOs who this is 100% not their fault and I’m willing to go down to a 60-65 hour guarantee if it will continue to give these young guys and girls income and most of all insurance for their families. That 10 hour comes out to 1000$ a month cut. No big deal. But mostly because I don’t have child support or alimony because again, not your average old pilot here.

The most senior guys here don’t mentor..it’s “not their job to teach.” Which..is actually a quality of any good captain..and some probably shouldn’t be in the seat at all..which is why they are still here.

It’s probably why they’re eager to furlough. They’re sick of flying with young pilots who still have a lot to learn but they either don’t know how to teach or think “If I wanted to teach I would have become a check airman and get paid more”

True! Some have tried and not been selected. Thank god..but they do spend..rather did..all their time talking about having their apps in everywhere and never getting a call! Many asap reports have been filed lol. We all know Mesa is not a company to retire from.. The younger and/or junior captains..totally opposite. Best guys I’ve ever flown with.

So people will get furloughed. Eventually. We are STILL talking about a temporary band aid. To give people more time..for a vaccine..for people to stop watching CNN...for WHATEVER. You can preach the northwest scenario until hell freezes over. It’s 3 months. Mesa is not going to file for bankruptcy in the next 3 months. The union needs to represent ALL of its members. At least 1/6 of this pilot group wants something to be negotiated. So at least 1 of our reps better vote in favor of something! Or do the furloughed guys get all their years worth of dues back since they aren’t being represented? It wasn’t 40/50 or 60 hours. He said a 10 hour across the board. Or do the tiered. Whatever...ALPA represents mainline too. Bit of a conflict of interest when helping us does nothing to help mainline in this environment.

In the end, we are all going to be screwed to some degree.
This virus and the resulting fall out will last well into next year. The “temporary” guarantee is not going to end at the end of the year, I promise they will be looking for another extension and maybe more by then. Regardless of what we give back we will see furloughs and downgrades.
