It largely depends on the domicile. In PHX you won't see much over block due to the efficiency of the system and the fact that we see little to no weather out this way (which is amazing btw). So we haul a$$ everywhere out west. Now DFW is a different story. Diversions for wx, waiting an hour or more for a gate, deicing, etc...that all adds up to a more substantial amount of overblock.

No one said it does--the OP is simply advocating flying the cost index speeds and taxiing at a safe speed vs. blasting around at .81/.79 for no reason like a dummy.
If you leave as early as possible, taxi at safe speeds per the AIM/GOM/CFM, fly cost index speeds from the TLR or ACARS--per the GOM I might add--you maximize your block, and increase the odds of locking in a few minutes of OB here and there.
Why not follow company policy and fly Econ speeds? If you aren't trying to catch a commute, you shouldn't be flying any faster that CI/ECON!!!

Too many people just blindly fly the EJet like a CRJ because they're still in CRJ mode in their heads.

The trip credit and block credit is predicted by the computer based on a running history. So all you guys doing .80-.82 are shooting us in the foot. Last day last trip i get the .82, but otherwise the faster you fly the less credit the trip is worth in the future. Hell my leg back from Mexico today we flew it at .70 because of a strong tail wind with a GS of 390. Total over block = .6......... Over block= more hours= more pay. And now with wifi on board you can do all that you normally would during a sit in the terminal so why rush. Plus after the last TA who gives a s*it. I aint doing the company any favors. I don't get paid enough to care about on time performance.

It is different for the United side is all I'm going to say. Not advocating anything when it comes to what you do with it when airborne but there are more options on United.
And we do sometimes fly .65 or slower. Especially if we want to get to a higher altitude. Our ceiling is dependent upon a few factors, one of which produces an inverse correlation between speed and altitude. Basically, the slower we go, the higher we can go.
