1800 pilots at 10/month. Plus a little bit of outside attrition. Over half of the group has been on property less than 2 years. Also remember American doesn’t do classes in December.

Wish people could understand this who keep asking about our flow, or saying that it is a good insurance policy. It maybe a good insurance policy for someone who has less than 4 years to flow. If you're #1801 ha! Good luck!

Exactly. Flow when you’re 500+ in the list is not a “Pro” anymore, just like sap. We should be flowing more but apparently DF said no because we can’t staff that. Might as well give up hotel reimbursement for another 2 per month flow. Split up into 2 classes of course.

What? That's only 16 years... That's a great insurance policy

then why do all of the AA WOs advertise 6-7 years? On the Republic Airline’s forum there are 10 year captains there who haven’t gotten hired by a major or legacy yet. This is the main reason I’m interested in PSA, the DCA base, but more importantly, a flow Incase I can’t go somewhere else sooner. You really don’t think the flow is worth it?

Yet Endeavor can take delivery of 4 jets per month with roughly the same size pilot group.

The flow is a great recruiting tool when advertised at 6-7 years, that's a sweet spot for an "insurance" plan. If your limit idea of a "major" is limited to the current Big 6 the flow might be a good option. If those 10 year captains would consider the ULCCs, which are starting to improve their contracts, they could probably move on up.

We trippled our pilot group and barely doubled flow. I'm a third of the way up the seniority list and 5 years to flow is only realistic if the flow doubles again to 20/month. Whatever we do to fix this the pilot group should get a vote.

In my opinion, and I’m sure others will agree. If you live in the DC area and can drive to work then yes it’s worth it. If your QOL is high then the “back pocket” flow is worth coming to a WO. But, if you’re looking to commute than maybe not. Because as an FO you’ll be able to hold DC relatively quickly out of training and potentially get a few months of Rd1. Then when you upgrade you’ll be looking at a 2 leg to DAY or ORF before being able to bid back to DC. In that case I don’t think the flow is worth it. It’s all about QOL.

Ok I understand what you mean regarding the changing of flow time.

Fortunately live near DCA and IAD so there is a number of regionals nearby, but PSA has been the most attractive just because one of my fears would be i’d be one of those people who get stuck in the regionals forever. I like having backup plans so the flow makes it look nice to me. I’d have no issue with going to a major like JetBlue later on, infact I know a senior captain there who said he’d get me an interview with them once I meet their hiring requirements in the future. But having a flow to AA seems safe, or so it appears anyways.

This assumes upgrade at the 3 year mark. I like the crews I fly with, we have solid professionals in the cockpit. Reserve rules, and scheduling shenanigans though have been enough I’ll likely make a move.
