400 pilots at PSA means 200 upgrades.
We have approx 250 f/o's.
So if you come to Psa you will not upgrade in less than 2 years.
Do the math. 10 pilot upgrades per month.
20 months to get the 200 upgraded.
Then 5 every month after. The 250th f/o right now on property has at least 30 months before they upgrade. Then all new hires are after that.
A 3 year upgrade average is most realistic.

Let's assume all those 900s show up before Jan 2016, I believe they're taking deliveries of 2 per month starting in the spring. That's another 300 pilots. That's 150 upgrades right there.
Let's also assume that attrition is 5 per month. Not just the New American preferential interviews or whatever, but also guys that go to UAL, DAL, jB, FedEx, etc, etc. That's 120 pilots in the next 24 months.
So in the next two years PSA will have to upgrade 270 pilots which is larger that the current FO pool.
That assumes that the 200s all stay on property, and that attrition is ONLY 5 pilots per month, which I believe could be a little low.
All that said, it's all a crapshoot. Take your best guess.
You can also use that same math to figure out how many FOs might actually hit the top of that 4 year pay scale.

Again, please explain how this is a dumb decision? Sounds like a great investment to me! I'd GLADLEY forgo $5-10k a year now for a couple years to turn it into half a mil.
To each his own though. Stick by your guns and you show'em what's right. There is only one rule in this career field: Maximum money for the least amount of work and the best QOL along the way.
Good Luck!

You must have done very poorly in math, I feel sorry for you. I hope your wife/husband has a good job & balances the checkbook. I was merely pointing out that the PSA guys/gals will more than likely, as a direct result of this contract...get to a Major 2 years ahead of thier peers at larger regionals such as Skywest or Expressjet or Republic. That 2 years makes ALL the difference in the world QOL wise for the rest of their careers, but most importantly they will be SR Widebody Captains for 2 additional years at the END of thier careers. At today's payscales that is worth around $500,000.

Also, the $5K to $10K is around 30 to 50 percent of a pilots yearly income at the first year level. That's not something to shrug off. Not everyone has the luxury to be able to afford to give up that money early in their career. They shouldn't have to give up anything. Anyone trying to afford a house and raise a family is struggling to do so on regional income levels. Is that acceptable to you? Future pilots should make enough money from the first day they step into the 121 world. Stop trying to prevent that. It's offensive that you don't care how low wages are right now.

Serious question then...by your logic...why not work for free while you're at a regional level if it meant an even faster upgrade? How far do you take this? WHy not just goto eagle jet or whatever it is and buy pic Time? Just skip the fo part. I mean really isn't that 500,000 worth paying. $40,000 now for some pic time in a beech 99?

My other frustration is that mainline pilots wonder why regional pilots aren't as fired up about the threat from foreign, government subsidized airlines. We DO care, but currently we are fighting concessions to fly BIGGER RJs. Yes, we would love to stand shoulder to shoulder, but we have our own fight on our hands. This is why I hate the dis-unity and two tier nature of 121 ops.
Divide and conquer, and it ain't the pilots who win.
P.S. Erdude, I'm not trying to barbeque you, and I'm sure you don't have bad intentions. I'm just frustrated at the lack of unity in the pilot world and how easy it is for the management side of the house to play us off each other.

By the way, no need to feel sorry for me and yes, my wife has a great job, making more money than I do or ever will in this industry (even if it is in the left seat of a widebody aircraft). Regardless of that, I still balance the checkbook and haven't gone bankrupt yet. So I guess I can add and subtract properly. At the least, that degree from NYU was good for something!
