FWIW

From my knowledge and experience regarding the EFB program, the company can't rely on hotel wifi for us to update charts/manuals. The company has to provide means of use updating while on the clock. We aren't to be expected to keep anything up to date when we are not on duty, as that is an administrative duty as defined by 117 (In my opinion at least).

I would not be surprised one bit if the trial program was held over or extended months and months because of PSA's lack of give a crap regarding getting wifi in the crew bases. They are pretty nonchalant about a majority of the issues, so this one is coming together about par for the course.

Any idiot that complains about the wifi needs to shut up. Keep in mind, the alternative is doing manual updates and lugging the charts around.
Do you lug your lunchbox around? How many cans of tuna do you fit in there? Do you make your crew hurdle over it as they climb in and out of the flight deck?

Are you on a first name basis with any one of the 36 different ramp controllers in CLT? Have any of them yelled at you recently? Have you dared filling up your water bottle from the ramper's gatorade cooler yet?

Thanks in advance.

That's what the cell data is for. Update it when you're setting up.

Well, honestly I'm a 57 YOA ATP rated pilot with over 3300 hours total time. My last flying position was flying CE-501 in Florida for a large corporation but I left in 1994 because my two sons were young and as a single parent I had to make a decision to leave the industry in order to raise my boys. My sons are now grown up and self sufficient and due to the current pilot hiring/shortage I made the decision to get back to a pilot position. At my age I obviously am not looking to flow to a major airline and am willing to stay with a regional for the next 8 years. I am retired from California State Service and have a decent retirement and medical benefits so not really concerned with that part of it. Why PSA? Honestly they were the first airline to offer me an interview and it seems from reading all these posts that any regional has pros and cons and I think it's a matter of personal preference whether someone is willing to accept the conditions or not. I just want to fly again.
I don't stop by this thread often because I can do without most of the griping.

Given what you've said, I'd recommend any base BUT Charlotte. All of the others will make you a line holder quicker, and a Round 1 line holder is where the good (or better) life is at PSA. I'm an FO in the top half of the seniority list at Knoxville. Most months this year I've gotten a line in the top 10 of my choices, including twice my #1 pick.

Being in a wholly owned regional, you'll have great travel benefits. So PSA is a decent choice for you.

Thanks for the information. I have an interview scheduled for the 20th. Any advice or tips on the interview process?

My understanding is that it would be super expensive to put wifi in the CLT crew room, thanks to the policies put in place by the CLT Airport.

I would be surprised if there is any truth to this rumor. Think about it PSA is already paying for data for over 1200 iPads. PSA would not pay that if all they needed to do was put in wifi for three crew rooms. Secondly, why would they want to delay getting rid of the paper charts? I mean they longer this trial period continues the longer they have to continue to pay Jepeson for paper chart revisions to out fit 1200 pilots every month plus the data usage for the iPads.

Now I could be completely wrong, but we will find out in the next 30 days.

May the SAP always be in your favor
