PSA info

Sounds like we will be in both classes together. The first letter (for the ATP-CTP) has in the scheule block 1 day for the ATP Knowledge Exam, indicating it is the FAA test. Notice also the bullet point "Upon successful completion of the course and the ATP written, you may be accepted into the next available New Hire First Officer class scheduled." While pehaps you can go anywhere to take the exam, it seems prudent to take it asap after the ATP-CTP so you can get into the scheduled class the following Monday. And be prepared to pay for the exam ($165.)

2. Does anyone have any gouge on training dates for the holiday period? Class start date is the 19th, so I'll obviously be in training for Xmas and New Year's... I understand we get those holidays off, but since they both fall on the weekend this year, would anyone have a clue how that works out? Not a big deal really, just trying to figure out how much time I'll have to pack up the family and divy-up trips between all the different family members, if any...
Thanks
Thanks
Unfortunately, my emails have not been answered by the people who sent me the info letters including the tagline "feel free to reach out if you have any questions." I understand they are busy busy, but it is a frustrating and disappointing part of this process that these questions are answered here on APC faster. (& at all.)
Let me know if you have any luck.

You are correct... Just went back to that first email and saw that a few minutes ago. Having ten different "New Hire" emails and reply threads in my inbox hasn't helped me keep the info straight.
I've had some trouble getting questions answered in a timely fashion as well. I'm pretty empathetic when it comes to things like this, but/and I am hoping it's a sign that hiring is at an elevated level, and HR is just trying to stay afloat.

A big confusing point I have is when does pay & per diem start? Earlier in the thread it was indicated we are not "on property" until FO class. This agrees with what the recruiters suggested in the interview (i.e. don't pass the ATP-CTP=not hired.) However, my new hire forms all listed the first day of ATP-CTP as my DOH. Anyone recently through care to chime in?
(still planning to not be paid until FO begins, but would be happy to find out different.)

Yes, every w-2 dollar I earn at PSA is taxed at 39.6%, because if I didn't earn it, I'd still be paying 39.6% on the "last dollar earned". It is absolutely in my interest to reduce my w-2 income by maxing the 401(k) contribution. It's not about earning less - it's about retaining and growing more of what little I earn flying airplanes.
Now if you have enough passive income (or you're married to a doc) that you can afford to max out a 401(k) while still having enough to maintain whatever lifestyle you expect, then by all means. BUT, if one's income is under the limits for a Roth IRA, then they should max out their 401(k) match, then the Roth, then back to the 401(k).

Agreed on both. Printing much of it and building a file helps. Also, I'm approaching it a little like the military... show up and learn the real scoop from the people doing the training, rather than the recruiter. Plan for the worst, be happy when it turns out different.
AMEN

Pay does not begin until 19th, as I understand it.
It stated such somewhere...

My main point (however poorly stated) that people need to hear is that earning enough to put you into a higher tax bracket doesn't automatically go back and tax all of your earnings below that bracket at a higher rate. So when I hear people say that don't want to earn enough to put them in a higher tax bracket I tend to groan a little inside because it seems obvious that there's something they don't understand.
