Because they don't have hot reserve. If someone calls out sick last minute they don't want to wait 2 hours for coverage. In my experience there, the only time they called me inside of two hours was at the beginning of my reserve time for the day (5am or 11am depending on your SCR line), usually to cover for the line pilot that wakes up sick or has car problems. If there's an excess of reserves they also like to deadhead you to CLT really early. I didn't mind that because once I was out of base they typically kept adding flying so I stayed out of base.

Hi
In monthly line bidding for PSA, in the round 2 bid right now, I see there is LCR and R2 and SCR. I also see that some reserve lines start with SCR either 0500 or 1100 which I understand. What I don't understand is the dedicated LCR lines.. is everday long call? Or will they do they're usual and switch you to Short Call?(even with that entire line of LCR?).
Also, is the release time different on the last day whether you have an 0500 vs 1100SCR start time on day1?
Little confusing so thanks for any input
Regards

Has anyone else noticed this little nugget on the PSA profile page, here on APC:
"* Currently 5 pilots a month flowing to American, increasing to 8 per month in the next 12-18 months."
PSA Airlines | AirlinePilotCentral.com
It looks like the company WANTS to increase the flow from 5 to 8, (no doubt serving their OWN needs for recruiting purposes). It also looks like someone in pilot recruiting has jumped the gun and posted it on APC.
So when the union comes out and tells us that they have "negotiated" an increase in flow, from 5 to 8/month, we'll have a pretty good idea that they didn't "negotiate" anything!

The increase to 8 is already in the original flow LOA and is tied to "active captains" on the list. This is not a cat got let out of the bag situation.

For every 62 captains that get added to the list, we get 1 additional flow (up to 8). With the captains needed to properly staff the 150 airplanes that we are expected to have, that brings us to 8/month.
Right now, we are upgrading 24-28 captains a month, but we are losing at least 15 to flow/attrition.
So, in reality, we are adding about 12 captains a month (on average). I think we will likely hit the 6th flow in June at the latest, and the 7th around the end of the year. I can't imagine that we will have enough to reach 8 in 2017, but it all depends on outside attrition.
To be honest, I would rather that we lose 25 a month to Delta/United/FedEx/UPS and never increase the flow number. That would be better for everyone on property anyways.
Either way, we are going to lost a lot of people this year, and the seniority list should have great movement. Upgrade and reserve times should be short, which is great for new hires.
TallFlyer keeps much better numbers that anyone else, and I know he is tracking the number of active captains. He will be able to tell us better than I will be able to.

[QUOTE=FlexNinja;2283050]My experience was the same. I would see trips pop on and off quite regularly. Usually, if it was a really ugly trip, like a 12 hr 4-day or something like that, I could count on keeping it the whole time.
If I'm on reserve and not going to break guarantee anyway, a 12 hour/4day trip (i.e., gentleman's trip) is just the ticket.

[QUOTE=pilot28906;2284719]Thanks. Could you get TYS out of training on reserve ...
Yes, some guys get TYS out of training. I did. In training last summer I bid CLT #1 and TYS #2 and got TYS.
If you don't want to live like a college student you might want to throw up a post on Craigslist for room share wanted. You might get lucky like I did.
You will mostly deadhead to CLT to start assignments, but that's not all bad as it compresses what they can do to/with you on the first and last days since they have to get you home.

Thanks. Could you get TYS out of training on reserve (need to use crash pad) or are you saying that it would take awhile to get TYS even on SCR? Sorry for the newb questions.
Also, any career changers on here who is through training that could offer insight?
Thanks again.
