Commuting in and out of ORF is a real pain. You've got an AWAC base there, and tons of ex-military working for nearly every airline

Lack of a long term contract and lack of upgrade opportunities are the biggest thing holding me back from making AWAC my #1 choice. The flow is a nice thing to keep in the back pocket too, but I don't want to have to come home every day wondering if I'm going to be out of a job x months down the line and lack of management transparency regarding the future of employment status. I've already done that once with the Navy, I don't feel like doing it again 2 years down the road.

Does anyone know if the flow program keeps you from applying to AA earlier and attempting to "jump the flow" at any three of the WOs?

Obviously everyone around you in terms of seniority would hate your guts, but if you have some serious connections at mainline, I'm just wondering if this is theoretically possible

Will PSA positive space you if you attempt to non-rev on 2 flights into base like other airlines do? It looks like there's almost a flight every hour from ORF to CLT.

I have been around aviation my whole life. Parents, uncles grandparents have all been professional pilots exclusively-- military, 121, and 91.

Ive tried to make a living at it two times--about to be 40. I have always had to do something to supplement the flying.

You absolutely have no idea or promise with any company of tomorrow and I have seen the "dog" become the "prince" multiple times.

If any airline is based at your home that is the one i recommend.

They are all more similar than different and not having to commute is the biggest QOL issue.

They have the option, once you call on the second attempt.

The flow does not hold you back at all. Envoy has FOs and Captains that were street hires in class at AA with the flows. No animosity towards them at all, nor should there be.

If you have good connections use them!

Good to know. What happens if they don't exercise that option?

As I remember/understand the contract, they can release you;you can go home--unpaid--or you can attempt to get to base and rejoin the trip, request additional flying.
