It actually doesn't sound like a horrible offer. I applied and got the invite for the interview (3 days before the actual interview and I live in NY so I passed...) But if theres future classes/interviews, I may consider it. I'm just not sure if I'm fond of getting $1000 taken out of a ~$1500 paycheck...Not much left to pay the bills...

Cruz, Archer: I wish I was there with you. But I turned down an interview because they werent technically hiring street captains. I was very interested in Billngs, learning a new plane, and flying in the snow
. I think about it every day now whether I made the right decision. There was too much unknown with starting off as an FO and potential for losing so much that I have right now. Anyways...I hope you guys have a great experience and are happy. I hope to not regret my decision. Keep your head in the books and your head out of the bars. Then you can keep your head in the bars as often as one finds fit.

I just hit 300TT. I'm starting a CFI gig on Long Island. Would you guys recommend taking up an opportunity like this to build time? or stick with an instructing job...obviously the Turbine PIC benefit doesn't matter to a guy like me, because I have to get to 1500/ATP before I can even start logging it...

I think with a job like this you will get your multi, night, instrument, ATP and 135 hours faster than you will instructing, not to mention turbine time. The only thing that you will not get right away is the PIC time. But even if it takes you 2 years to upgrade, you'll get almost 1000 PIC your first year as a captain. All this in three years is not a bad deal in my opinion.
Also consider that during interviews you will be able to mention that you went from flying pistons to twin turbines at only 300 hours, and I'm assuming just a handful of multi. It's not a HUGE deal, but it is one more positive for ya.

I think it is a good opportunity for a fresh CFI provided, the person is mature enough to do the work. Remember you are primarily there to back the Captain up, not learn. You are going right into flying people around, people with lives and loved ones. If you choose to do it, learn as much as you can in training, and spend time outside of work learning for that first year as well.

Thanks for the info. I emailed and called the recruiter 2 weeks ago. When he called me back, he told me about the whole $300 per month 5 year deal...right before he said "can you fly down next week for an interview?"....I told him I was going to pass, but now that things have changed, I wonder if I blew my opportunity...I understand theres a December class, I wonder if I can interview in time for that, or maybe there will be another class early next year, hopefully by March/April...

500TT and 55ME I'm not sure how comfortable I would be at 300 hours hopping into a 1900. At 450 hours when I started flying a King Air I was overwhelmed, but I had a great instructor who mentored me through the beginning hours. Looking at myself now I'm still a tad nervous with only 500 hours to be hopping into a 19 seat turboprop. I'm very thankful I was able to fly the King Air around as the two planes are nearly the same. In fact I don't know how I would have done in the sim eval had I never been exposed to that type of environment.
