Don't pay. Find a different career that pays.
Get an MBA...

Indeed! Dishing out $20k for a job that pays $20k first year is, uh, pretty dumb as most sane folks would tend to agree (I hope). I like flying, but I don't want to go broke chasing some dream that likely will end up becoming a nightmare. And all the flight schools could be as packed as they want right now...if poor CFIs can't pay for the new ATP requirements, there won't be many showing up at the door for regional jobs in a few years.

I mean, you do know that, yes ? Or did someone tell you otherwise.
The majority shareholders are institutions. They make deals and collude together to put their money in certain sectors or stocks. A group of banks, for example will all agree to buy housing stocks, when they are low. Then the, 401K and mutual fund mgrs. will be paid off to buy these stocks, then the talking heads will start pumping up the stock or sector. As the public starts buying, the institutions start dumping--the CEOs are part of the inside club, so they do the same. Then the short options are put on. As the stock crests and tanks, the shorts make money on the downside.

All this has very little to do w/ actual performance of the CEO or company in today's market. So many books are cooked, so many audit firms are on the take, and so many analysts are nothing more than paid shills, that stock price is meaningless w/ regards to performance.

If a stock price is slipping, the company will borrow cheap money to buy back shares to prop it up. At these stock prices, P/E ratios are absurdly high.

It sounds like atpcliff actually believes this crap; what's up with that?!
I am a HY major...I read about UAL hiring guys in High School, with a PPL. That was the mins for UAL back then, and I know it could happen again...it is coming...

US Bureau of Labor Statistics
It doesn't matter what they say, because US jobs are a very small part of the pilot shortage...which is why so many countries are now courting US pilots...

Those charts are COMPLETELY misleading. You need to look at NEWLY licensed pilots...not existing. And the pilots on the misleading charts, as well as the ones for new pilots, show ALL US licenses. Many flight schools are filled to the brim with foreign cadet pilots. Do you think a chinese pilot, with no green card, and his training paid for by China Southern will be applying at DAL anytime soon???

I will reiterate someone else's words I once read: when UAL, AAL, DAL, UPS, FDX, SWA, JBLU et al are coming to my house, knocking on my door to recruit me(like the colleges do for athletes) THEN and only THEN will I eat crow and buy into this garbage that you have obviously bought into. You get out much and look around? I really don't mean to insult you, but you are out of touch with the reality of this business. Your reference to high school makes me think you're still in it!

The regionals will provide this training just like they hire with no ATP now and you get it when you take your checkride. No, you won't be required to come out of pocket for it. If you look at the requirements, and the new hire training program, they are closely aligned.

In the 60's when the majors were hiring low timers, what they forgot to tell you was the high wash rate. That alone finished your "career."

That's funny how I've never heard that side of the story. Amazing how some things are mentioned and others aren't. Part of the master plan, I suppose. I'm sure that cliff has a rebuttal
