How does the sign on bonus work? Is it in installments?

Half on day 15 of training and second half on day 30 of training…or pretty much whenever they decide to give it to you. One week you might get paid, next few weeks you won't. Don't come here planning to finance yourself on training pay. Every check I received during training was at least a week, sometimes two weeks late. Didn't receive a dime till my 2nd week at Flight Safety. Four weeks into training. Hopefully they are getting better. Good Luck!!!

Try using google to find a map of North America. You might notice that the US isn't the only country on the map and other airlines do exist in these counties. These French and Spanish speaking companies don't use mouthwash and they aren't your friend.

14 years ago my first year pay at piedmont I made 28,000 dollars flying a 37 seat prop. Had a friend go to Republic and fly a 76 seat Jet and not even make 20,000 his first year. Incredible.

Your friend is lying to you. It's not even possible to make less than 20k even flying min guarantee every month and not including the bonus and per diem. If you never break guarantee you will make at least 27k NOT including the $5,000+ of tax free per diem. Its very unlikely to never break guarantee so 27k plus per diem is worst case scenario.

Funny, you get defensive about the pay, just face it, it sucks. Guys flying DC9's and F100's which are not much bigger than a 170/190 were making way more. One more thing, stop counting the per diem as a source of income.
Next time you are in the hotel van, ask the driver/bellman what they make. You will feel pretty crappy after that and he doesn't have $150k in school loans.
