Just because PIC wont matter someday in the distant future, doesn't mean you should plan your career around not getting any.

For people contemplating career moves (of any kind), get your PIC to better position yourself for whatever comes next. You'll always be better off than the schmuck with no PIC.
OK thump what about all the guys with turboprop PIC with no glass time that are being declined interviews because they have no jet or glass time all the while their buddies that have 7000 SIC in RJs are gettting the offers?

While I don't agree with the larger RJs taking mainline flying the guys flying the E170/175/190 are going to be more marketable in the future than the pilots coming from Lakes with 2000hrs PIC 1900 time.

My comment doesn't mean that I think PIC time is not needed or desired. You say people shouldn't bet their future on pilots (like me) who think PIC will not be needed to get on at Major. Well how did that bet turn out for the guys hired in the past 10 years that chased the quick upgrade carrot? SEE really no one knows how the future will turn out but we all have our opinion.

Yes sir..!!!! My small amount of E-170/190 time/experience has done a hell lot more then my antiquated DC-9 time. I don't even have my 1900/king air time on my resume anymore.

Just my observation but considering you have DC-9 time and your screen name is MD90PIC you must be a CA at DAL. Right? If so you have not been in the hunt for a job in the past year for any of the LCCs or Airways. What you quoted from my post is not my opinion that part is FACT!! The larger airlines are wanting FMS, Jet and Glass time. Sure if you come in with PIC turboprop time with SIC jet time you will be higher in the pile. I personally know more than few people passed over with all TP time and no jet time. Its the times were in right now, unlike any other time in hiring history where time in aircraft with Advanced Avionics is looked highly on. Is it right? Not really but having a good mix in todays market is better than one or the other.

Also like I said a few posts back DAL, FedEx, and UPS will probably still want the PIC time for a while to come.

Hello,

about to start over at regional number 4. I have an interview at RAH. I have scrolled through a few different threads in full, and still had a few questions that I was wondering if anyone had answers to.

(When i say Rebuplic, I am referring to all certificates as a whole. Sorry for confusion)

1-Does Republic pay pilots guarantee pay during initial training?

2-Does Republic pay per diem in initial training?

3-Does Republic prvoide a hotel during training? I have heard no and yes

4-Is all training in IND or does it vary?

5-How much are union(teamsters) dues in % of pay?

6-Do 1st year probationary pilots also have to pay dues?

7-A more broad question, but still trying to figure out non-rev benefits for Republic. Does American actually give non-rev benefits to republic pilots. It appears that some bases or certificates get benefits with multiple carriers....is that possible?

8-Im guessing they are still offering a signing bonus as of 1/31/13?

Thanks in advance for anyone that can help with these questions.

Here you go typical41

1-Does Republic pay pilots guarantee pay during initial training? Yes.

2-Does Republic pay per diem in initial training? No.

3-Does Republic prvoide a hotel during training? Yes during initial training (duel). No, if you're upgrading, displacing to another certificate or doing recurrent and the training is located where you're based.

4-Is all training in IND or does it vary? No. Indoc in IND and the rest is mostly in St. Louis or Houston (can vary if they get backed up).

5-How much are union(teamsters) dues in % of pay? The last time I looked it was about $35 per check, not sure about %.

6-Do 1st year probationary pilots also have to pay dues? Yes.

7-A more broad question, but still trying to figure out non-rev benefits for Republic. Does American actually give non-rev benefits to republic pilots. It appears that some bases or certificates get benefits with multiple carriers....is that possible? Yes if your base flies for multiple carriers you will get multiple benefits. Like you said, the benefits vary based on your certificate and base (too many combinations to list).

8-Im guessing they are still offering a signing bonus as of 1/31/13?

Yes.

Thanks in advance for anyone that can help with these questions. You're welcome.

Did you read the whole sentence? If you are based where the training is then no. The Republic and Shuttle upgrades are in STL (outside of indoc), there isn't even a base there so yes you get a hotel.

Very poorly written my man. If you are giving advice atleast make it user friendly when it comes to the facts. I might have missed it, how long have you been at RAH?

Pay is a $1600 stipend/expense check (so not taxed as income; comes in weekly installments of $400) the first month. Guarantee (75 hrs) starts the second month.

Union dues is just shy of 1.6%, you start paying after 90 days.

Hotel during initial training is provided but is double occupancy. (I don't know of any airline that's provides a hotel when training is in your base/domicile after initial training! So no clue why that was even mentioned.)

$5000 bonus is paid in 2 payments, 1st on day 15 of training, second on the 30th day. (2 yr training contract for E170/175)
