Quote: I was junior Left seat. I really did enjoy it here and I think in the end I would have been happy but it was a “what’s best if the family” decision. I’ll be based at home on the west coast. Other then that I was starting to struggle how the company squeezed its pennies. No catering, potable water is ok to drink and then lately the sick call memos/section 19’s and closing ORD which seems to be nothing more then vindictive. I’m probably leaving one devil for the other but at least I’m going in with eyes wide open.

What I’m going to miss are the crews. There is no denying that this pilot group was one of the best groups I have ever flown with. Management though… Ugh….
I'm junior left seat as well and thought I would NEVER consider leaving, but I'm updating apps and collecting LOR's for the exact reasons you listed above. I have it on good authority that you are right, it was a knee jerk reaction by Biffle to the challenge in staffing ORD during the Omicron surge. Other airlines drew down flying and had similar numbers of crew call out but Frontier didn't budge. No analysis was done on how closing ORD as a pilot base (but not as a flight attendant base?) affected the operation, how it would affect the pilot group or anything else. I don't want to work for people who do not respect my contribution to their success. We are going to lose a lot of pilots over this. I haven't made up my mind for sure but I'm going to see what my options are.

Quote: Seriously? You didn't hear anything about them trying to run 2 classes per month or anything like that did you?

If they are trying to run classes of 40 and only got 10 to show?.... Yikes!

Regardless, welcome to Frontier!
Apparently they cancelled the JAN 10 class. I'm not sure how true that is. Jan 3 class was 22, and ours JAN 31 has 10. I heard the next class is Feb 28th. I'll see if I can find out anymore details.

Thank you everyone for the Welcome! Great to be a part of the team and **** show!

So there were supposed to be 3 classes in January? That’s a first.

In any case, welcome! I’ve ridden in many other airline jumpseats in my years and I can honestly say that, cockpit door closed to cockpit door open, you won’t find a better working environment and coworkers. Opening the cockpit door is occasionally like opening the door to hell, but embrace whatcha can when ya can!

We've ran two a month.

I ought to block you after your shenanigans yesterday

Maybe it was Jan 31 since February is as a short month.

That aside, you’re right. It was wrong. Short lived, but wrong. Like I said, I was directly impacted and I’m the guy that copes with a dark sense of humor (comes from an old career field). If my attempt at a bad joke directly impacted you I do sincerely apologize.

I mean…really? I don’t have a dog in this hunt, but I’m skeptical that the management of a however many billion dollar operation would knee-jerk close a base to “teach those pilots a lesson.”

I’ve never worked at a large company able to react to events that quickly. The base closure had to have been worked on for months.

This sounds like tinfoil hat wearing pilot versus management conspiracy theory.

You don’t know this CEO. He always hated the “inefficient” ORD reserves, so while this may have been planned, I think it was accelerated and was a knee jerk reaction to sick calls and attrition.

Again pilots are just another line item on a spreadsheet…….

if it will make indigo partners another $0.05 management will be INSTRUCTED to do so

I wish I were wrong, I really do. This story came around again through another source - a very senior guy who is plugged in to the goings on at this place. It happened like that. I'm not making it up or listening to crackpots. That's why junior captains like me are weighing their options and looking at possibly moving on. I used to think that in the interest of making money management wouldn't make stupid decisions, knowing what I know about this and other goings on it's clear I was wrong. This airline will figure things out one way or another and life will go on but the drama is so childish.
